“My country has standards. My neighbour has standards. But they are not always the same.”
That gap costs African exporters every time a shipment waits at a border for repeat testing and a fresh certificate. For many African exporters, reaching a market overseas is still simpler than selling next door.
At ATDF 2026, Africa’s decision-makers and trade leaders will ask what it would take to change that and how harmonised standards could give African products the credibility to compete across the continent and beyond. Then , they will turn the answers into action.

Africa Trade Development Forum 2026: Request Your Place by 15 October
What African businesses can sell, and where, is often decided long before their goods reach the border. And many of those decisions are shaped by the people in the room. On 23-24 November, 300 decision makers will meet in Addis Ababa for the Africa Trade Development Forum 2026. Most places are already reserved by invitation. For a limited number of others, guest accreditation is open until 15 October.
Why this room? ATDF is deliberately a working and decision-making forum. Conversations at previous Forums have moved beyond the conference into programmes and reforms that TMA and its partners have gone on to support.
This year, the people who produce and buy African goods will sit with those who set the standards, finance expansion and make the decisions that determine market access. The question before them: how do we #BuildAfricasExportsThroughQuality?
If your work puts you in that conversation, there is still a window to join it. Request accreditation by 15 October: atdf.trademarkafrica.com/reg…

At Goli- Mahagi, on the Uganda-DRC border, customs processing took eight hours in 2019. By 2024, it took three.
Finland helped fund improvements ranging from infrastructure to modern clearance systems, alongside the UK and the Netherlands, with TradeMark Africa and the Uganda Revenue Authority supporting delivery.
At Goli-Mahagi and the more than 20 other borders TMA has supported, progress has been propelled by better infrastructure, simpler procedures, reliable systems, and cooperation between authorities on either side. Finland has contributed over $35 million to TMA as a core donor; support that has given us the flexibility to invest across these needs, test innovations and attract further investment, opening opportunities for African businesses.
Now chairing TMA’s Council of Donors, Finland brings that experience to our 2023-2030 strategy and our ambition is to build on these gains so that more African businesses can trade competitively, reach new markets and grow with a smaller environmental footprint.
