This recent New York Life Youth Sports research is insane. Is it obvious youth sports is changing? Yes. For the better? Maybe. But the professionalization of youth sports isn't the problem - it is this... "75% believe their kids have the skills to play professionally". It should instead say "75% b̶e̶l̶i̶e̶v̶e̶ DESPERATELY WANT their kids to play professionally". As a former professional athlete all I can say is 1) You are insane. 2) These kids are way to young for this pressure. 3) This type of thinking is what makes parents believe that every 12u all-star game is vital and therefore justifies cussing at refs, screaming at kids, and traveling 500 miles to play every weekend. 4) Sport specialization HURTS their chances. Yes they will get better at the specific task of the sport but they will not develop well rounded movement patters. 5) One word - PUBERTY. A parent wouldn't expect their child to be a author before they can read. High expectations before puberty is just as stupid. Less is more. I often say that you do not appreciate the @NFLPA until you retire. While you focus all your attention to to your game- you are blind to the time, money, and effort of truly dedicated people looking after the health and well-being of every person that steps on the field. I am a proud member of Mackey-White and always look forward the time I spend building a better game.
