Trump has just nominated several sex offenders for cabinet positions. Now here’s three articles about why Democrats need to stop saying Latinx.

I remember where I was when I watched the final episode of Blackadder Goes Forth and how I sat stunned at the end. One of the best pieces of tragicomic writing ever, in any form; worth another look today of all days.

Sylvester wants to remind Doctor Who fans in America that Donald Trump is the absolute opposite to everything the Doctor stands for. The opposite to everything you love about the series. Please remember that when making your vote.
Speaking as someone currently enjoying a weekend in Antwerp I can confirm it's very relaxed, enjoyable and safe. And very much recognisable. Trump is an idiot. – at Antwerp, Belgium

I canceled our subscription to the LA Times because I want to make it clear that I am not okay with them being silent. In dangerous times, honest people need to stand up. This is the only way to show I’m standing up.- mh

Never underestimate the vast appeal of being a dick. And how that has been lurking under the surface of GOP politics for generations. Their breakout stars always begin being xenophobic & bigoted: Reagan, Buchanan, Limbaugh, then turn outright racist/fascist: Duke, Trump, Vance.

If North Carolinians don't reject Donald Trump at the polls after the way he's used our horrific tragedy to lie about his opponent, it will be our collective moral failure.

As we continue our unprecedented response to Hurricane Helene, the nation is beginning to understand that impacted areas have been the target of a relentless vortex of disinformation, dialed up by bad actors and platforms like X. 🧵

Asheville resident here to say that all the government agencies are here and hard at work. FEMA, state, counties, cities, all very visible and vigorous. Don’t listen to right wing bullshit.

The lies that Trump, @elonmusk, the Murdoch outlets, and dipshit Blue check marks are spreading about disaster relief are disgusting.
Thousands of people desperately need help. FEMA’s trying to help them. D and R officials on the ground are working to help them. Everyone’s cooperating except for these deranged assholes who’ve had their brains broken by this platform.
.@CNN on-air fact check: "Congress appropriates funds with intent for specific purposes. The money allocated to DHS for helping states to house migrants is separate - completely separate - from the money for disasters. No money is being 'stolen' from disaster relief."

This man is the nominee of the GOP for President of the United States.
And millions of people love him.
America has a problem.
First step is to admit the problem.
Second step is to overwhelmingly defeat this insane person so thoroughly that he leaves us and takes his hats and shoes and watches and crypto and bibles ...with him.
Then as a nation we have to reach into whatever illness allows his kind to thrive and cure that disease.

(PS5) This is such a stupid, humiliating, dark time in U.S. history. Like you read about the good Roman leaders and then read about the *really bad* obscure ones, and you wonder, whoa—what if you lived under *that* guy?
That’s the Age of Trump. America’s lowest point since 1864.

Is it time yet to revisit all the early heralding of the internet's pure democracy, of the idea
of "citizen journalists," of each and every voice being able to be heard being a good thing for our ability to find truth and govern ourselves? Because having spent a previous career in newsrooms, as part of the cold, organized monolith that was our gatekeeping mainstream media, I know that we were often too herd-like and centrist, sometimes misled and sometimes capable of publishing horseshit on incomplete or contradictory data. Sometimes we got it dead wrong. But every day, I remember that the editors read the copy and tried to verify what they could and avoid what they could not. And no one could pay us a fucking dime to say what we didn't think was the story we thought we had. Fact is, I once tried to sneak a piece of celery through some ranch dip at some politician's fundraiser because the guy was late showing up to make a speech and I was starving. Another reporter smacked it out of my hand: "That's Harry McGuirk's celery."
We had an ethic. We believed in our role, however flawed and vulnerable to error our work product might at times be. So fuck the influencers, fuck the pimps who bought them, fuck their rancid whoredom, and fuck a media culture that has bypassed the gatekeepers at least trying to hold to a core ethos. The marginalization and eventual death of old-fashioned journalism and what has ensued is going to be what ends our republic. And everyone who championed some purist vision of a post-mainstream media future is now and forever, officially, a rube.
