The new Sky Patterns album 'Night Call' is out now. An album that reaches deep into nocturnal territory — a world of half-spoken fears, flickering thoughts, and the uneasy sense of life seen through dim light Extremely limited CD available from: 🔗skypatterns.bandcamp.com/alb…

#NowPlaying #LiveMusic BETH ORTON It's no secret that Beth's latest album is one of my albums of the year, so I've been really excited for this one tonight at @StollerHall in Manchester. Update: this band is mega. They're so musical and tight, the songs jumped off the stage.

#NowPlaying #LiveMusic YOUNG THE GIANT A venue first for me, this gig's at Amber's in Manchester. Really excited about this one, they were on fabulous form last time I saw them at Band On The Wall. Looking forward to hearing some new stuff alongside Apartment and Cough Syrup.

Here are my nine album choices... I've left loads out - and 'In All The Empty Houses' wasn't available in the list, so I've gone for 'Cropping The Aftermath' instead, but all in all, this is a pretty fine list.

This. If I think about the number of gigs that I can get to for £500, let alone £1500, it's outrageous that people are being asked to part with this kind of money for 2 hours. At £500 for a ticket, that works out at £21.74 per song performed (based on 23 song setlist).
Some poor upset Oasis fan complains on here that they can’t afford £1,500 for the ticket they thought was £500 till they got to the checkout. Liam Gallagher replies to them in capitals. STOP MOANING. To put this into context the next show by The Soup Dragons is £22 a ticket.

Released 1st September 1986, it's the 40th anniversary of the stunning third album from The Chameleons. It's pretty tough to choose a favourite track, but I'm going with 'Soul In Isolation', it's such a massive song.

#NowPlaying #NewRelease L'RAIN Fata Morgana This genre-spanning album is pretty hard to classify or even describe. Vocals are layered, manipulated and stretched across drifting beats. In some parts, it's Sneaker Pimps, elsewhere an electronic Cocteau Twins. It's excellent.

Such a brilliant film - this scene is fantastic!
The single greatest use of Chekhov's pane of glass you'll ever see. It's beyond me how someone didn't die filming these stunts. What's Up, Doc? (1972) | Peter Bogdanovich

I've just finished reading this fab book written by a guy originally employed as a junior reporter for Melody Maker, then went on to become editor it before becoming the editor of Uncut magazine for 15 years. It's a fantastic read, lots of funny anecdotes about music folk.

What's your most favourite run of three songs on an album (not necessarily tracks 1-3, but could be 5-7 or 8-10). Singles generally used to front-load an album, though that's not always the case these days, likely down to people's streaming habits.

Amazingly, The Chameleons never appeared on British TV. This video was filmed for a European music show in 1983, around the time of their debut album, 'Script Of The Bridge'.
