I totally agree The charm of European football was the grainy, fuzzy pictures that looked as of it took a Herculean effort to beam from somewhere far away, the different climates, pitches, stadiums and the banners showing some hardcore had made the trip All gone 😭

The goal is to raise physically capable, confident kids who can think critically, exercise discernment, & make sound decisions. The goal is to prepare them for the real world. Not raise kids who used to be good at <insert sport> when they were younger. Don’t get it twisted.

I think a lot of it is performative for parents. I’ve heard parents criticise and say things like “he just stands there he doesn’t know what he’s doing” So they shout and bawl
The quietest coach on the sideline is often the best one. If you’re talking non-stop on game day, you’re coaching too late.

This. Boredom is where imagination lives. We really are messing up the future IMO.
There was something special about being a kid when adults didn't feel the need to entertain you every minute of the day. Your parents could take you somewhere incredibly boring, and you were just expected to deal with it. The bank. The hardware store. Your mother's friend's house, where you sat on a couch covered in plastic and weren't allowed to touch anything. Nobody handed you a screen. Nobody worried about whether you were having fun. You studied the wallpaper. You read the same magazine three times. You stared at the clock and wondered if the second hand had stopped moving. And if you made the mistake of asking, "Can we go now?" your mother gave you that look. You know the look. The one that could end your entire afternoon without a single word being spoken. I swear, we developed half our imagination simply because our parents refused to entertain us. Looking back, I think being bored was one of the best things that ever happened to us.

💬 ''Standing at the side and screaming at players, giving big, self-indulgent speeches that take up all the training time or before games, and overloading the kids with complex feedback may boost your ego but doesn’t teach them much.'' #grassrootsfootball ⚽

Clearly this account doesn’t know who the Sun King is
Can’t even beat a 31-year-old makeshift defender for pace. 😅

Dear parents, If you are paying $50+/hr for 1on1 training and the coach is tapping the ball unrealistically to your kid to shoot on goal. STOP. Take them to an open field and let them explore loads of different ways to shoot. Then go get ice cream and put $40 back in the bank.

The Reccy Rangers, born 1995, folded 1996 but what a time we had 😎
If you had a magic wand, which defunct former football club would you bring back to life?

Get it back or I'm cancelling Vibes this weekend
I’ve taken CM 26/27 offline. It started as a personal project for a few friends and became something I never expected. Thank you for every message and save story. A few words on why, and a goodbye: champman2627.co.uk

It's still incredible, maybe even more so.

This. Seen it in practice, right up to MD level. They are in thrall to AI and use it to make ALL sorts of important decisions without context. AI isn't going to 'take your job' in the way you think - it's going to take your job because an idiot misuses it.
My theory about corporate AI psychosis is that AI is most appealing to people who aren’t good at their jobs. AI slop looks incredible to them because they’re so incompetent they don’t even know what good work looks like in the first place.

In everything I've read about Oasis since they reformed, I've never read anything that gets to the actual heart of why they matter so much to so many people. No other band is doing this.
Finally can post a video of my LEGEND lad 😭

I'm loving 3v3, 2v2 & 1v1 but I'm struggling in prising them out of the goal, particularly at younger age groups. If one player sticks to the goal then the learning of all 3 is compromised. Any ideas? I'm particularly interested in the underlying psychologial asepcts tbh
I think we spend far too much time coaching 2v1 overloads in youth football. Of course, 2v1s are an important part of the game. But are we making things too easy for young players? Some coaches actually prefer 2v1 practices over 1v1s because of the decision-making involved. I disagree. For me, the 1v1 presents a far greater challenge. It’s like comparing solving a Rubik’s Cube with completing an eight-piece puzzle. In a 2v1, the solution is easy! In a 1v1, the player has to find a way to beat their opponent. They need technical quality, movement, deception, timing and the ability to make decisions under pressure. Of course, players need to recognise and exploit overloads. But I’d much rather develop this through 2v2 and 3v3 games, where players are challenged to create the overload themselves, rather than simply being presented with one. Stop giving players the overload. Teach them how to create it.

The Vibes FC order of priority Girl Player Team Club Coach There can be no other way imo
There is a slow narrative shift on this platform towards coaching the individual instead of the team. Maybe it is just my feed, but I'm reading a lot more about it. Here's an older thread with my thoughts on it

Done it. Had 2 sessions that were (I think) close to 9/10 as it’s gets. Enjoying a wee 🍺 while reflecting

As a youth football/soccer coach, one of the most important things you can do is let kids show their personalities on the pitch. Creativity, confidence, and joy come from expression not constant control. Let them play.

Watching this is still one of my most vivid football memories. I absolutely loved Gazza (still my favourite player) and jumped up when he scored only for my dad to cuff me round the ear. What a player and what a tournament.
That Gazza goal vs Scotland is now further from today than Geoff Hurst’s World Cup winner was from Euro 96. Yes. You're old.
