Atiku Abubakar has requested the Federal High Court to disqualify President Tinubu due to an alleged forged NYSC certificate. However, the new Electoral Act of 2026 has changed the timeline for raising such claims.
Key insights:
- Under the Electoral Act, 2026, an election result can no longer be challenged because the winner was not qualified to run due to a forged certificate.
- Forgery is still not legal, as the constitution still bars anyone who submits a forged certificate to INEC, but the fight may now have to happen before the election.
- Petitions filed outside the allowed grounds carry fines of at least N5 million for the lawyer and N10 million for the petitioner.

Election data in Nigeria is often fragmented. Results, candidate information, incident reports, and election schedules are spread across multiple platforms, making it difficult for citizens, journalists, researchers, and observers to access reliable information in one place.
Dataphyte Election Portal was built to fix that.
The portal tracks all 774 local government areas across every election category, from presidential and governorship elections to National Assembly and State Assembly polls. It brings together real-time election results, searchable candidate profiles, incident reporting, and other key electoral data in a single, easy-to-use platform.
This is part of Dataphyte's commitment to making Nigeria's electoral data more accessible, searchable, transparent, and useful for everyone.
