Replying to @choffstein @ScottPh77711570
While puts also cover gaps while the market is closed, stops are fully exposed to those gaps.
The place I found stops useful - intraday execution for a daily bar EOD trader. Similar same place in the toolbox as limit orders.

🧵 Nick Radge: Trading Lessons Hidden Between the Lines
A wonderful chat on the podcast with @thechartist here: algoadvantage.io/podcast/044…
For serious system traders only. Subtle, but powerful. Don't skim this.
Nick builds structural edges and lets time do the heavy lifting.
What looks simple is often deeply layered.
Here's what you might miss if you don't look at how he trades. 👇
Diversify by strategy archetype, not just asset class.
Radge combines:
* Absolute momentum (trend-following)
* Relative momentum (rotation)
* Mean reversion (short-term swing)
* All Weather Tactical Asset Allocation with ETFs
He's creating anti-correlation in the equity curve at every step, trading US and AUS markets in their own way. This is key, listen in on the pod. There are multiple layers of diversification we discuss.
Avoid the beginner cycle.
Most traders system-hop after 3–6 months of underperformance.
Radge? He’s traded some models for decades. Through multiple flat periods.
That’s not stubbornness. That’s expectation alignment.
You must map out a strategy’s likely cold streak before you fund it.
Psych capital > trade capital.
In 2008, his ASX trend system went to cash.
Clients panicked. “Why are we paying to do nothing?”
Then the market dropped 50%.
His strategy preserved not just capital—but confidence to re-engage in 2009.
That’s a rarely discussed edge: emotional solvency.
System timing is a fool’s errand.
Build systems with purpose to round out your portfolio.
Beware of trying to time a system.
His solution? Strategy stacking.
Not rotation. Simultaneous deployment.
Mean reversion draws down? Trend-following carries the torch.
He doesn’t over optimize.
Build based on the simple mathematics of non-normal distributions.
Markets must trend. (See why in the pod).
The edge isn’t in prediction—it’s in asymmetry.
Winners will overrun.
Losers get cut.
Edge = right tail exposure + small loss certainty.
Low touch, not low effort.
Radge runs longer term models now. Push a button. Done.
But it took 30 years to design it that way.
Simplicity is not “easy.”
It’s compression of complexity by knowing how to ensure robustness & durability.
Final thought:
Nick's success isn’t from flashy models or endless curve fitting.
It’s from consistency, structural robustness, and psychological realism.
It's treating trading as a business, staying focused.
If you're hunting alpha through novelty, you’ll miss him.
But if you're building longevity—you’ll see him as a blueprint.
Let it run for a couple of years and be pleasantly surprised by how much you can out-perform.
Thanks Nick for an excellent chat!

Apologia of the Trader
What purpose does the short term trader serve? He builds nothing for consumption nor does he advance the sciences. To most tribesmen, the trader seems to be at best a sellsword, at worst an annoying buzzard.

Bitcoin Investment Essentials, A Sneak Peek at This Week's Big Events (4/22-4/28)
Bitcoin successfully completed the halving last Saturday, the market is relatively stable, and some hot projects pushed up the BTC Fee, making miners' income increase instead of decreasing for the time being. There are fewer macro events and data this week, with almost no macro events of note. The market still takes the trend of U.S. stocks as the weathervane, and risk assets are still likely to fluctuate sharply.
🔔Heavyweight events this week:
4/24 Wednesday *.
🔔SEC to Resolve BlackRock Bitcoin Spot ETF Options Trading Application
4/25 Thursday *
🔔U.S. initial jobless claims
4/26 Friday *
🔔U.S. core PCE price index for March
🔔U.S. final University of Michigan consumer confidence index for April
🔔Hong Kong's SFC Plans to Shelf Spot Bitcoin ETFs in Hong Kong
📝Crypto Options Market Outlook:
Bitcoin rallied significantly over the weekend, major term IVs are relatively stable, structure is gradually returning, Dvol is still high, volatility is expected to be less this week than in the previous two weeks, Sell may be a higher option, especially sell put.
📝Crypto rates market outlook
Bitfinex green leaf interest rate market has big players who are continuing to add to their positions, but interest rates failed to continue to rebound back up, interest rates are currently at normal levels, you can wait and see to find high interest rate orders.

Ethereum’s net issuance is at -0.2% per year, this is clearly WAY TOO HIGH and something we need to CUT URGENTLY!
Otherwise non-stakers are being diluted by… *checks notes* … a negative amount per year, that’s dangerous!
We’ll be much safer if we cut our security budget!

I can still smell low morale from many of my peers who truly care—those who think decentralization is the point and are not yet nihilists mocking the mere notion of alignment. It wafts across the network like a miasma of cynicism. To those blessed few, I say:
Respect neither authority nor money. Loathe the Messiah complex of influencers and shitcoiners who think they're doing God's work by selling lottery tickets to the starving. These people are scum.
Be here for trustless compute. Be an Ethereum user because it has a total cost of attack greater than any other network. Champion its strong culture of libre software. Find joy in the few real, non-financialized communities that exist here.

The only "crypto villain from a previous era" who deserves a path to redemption is Mark Karpeles @MagicalTux - precisely because he's the only one who's not clamoring for attention asking for one. He's just quietly doing interesting stuff.

Price drives narrative. A big reason the narrative on $ETH has been anemic is because it's not 10x'ing like all the smaller caps. Color me surprised that a $250B asset could only... double to $500B.
This isn't about the tech, network effects, Lindy, or anything else. If CT and CNBC are any indication, most people hardly even understand crypto and the nuances of each project. We are in an era of dumb money doing dumb things and getting rewarded.
Followers know that I trade crypto with the ebb and flow, but the reason I've held long-term $ETH bags for 8 years is quite simple. I began my career developing software in the banking industry, and I've seen first-hand how ass-backward it is. The fact that Americans don't travel abroad much is a shame because many haven't seen the developing-world countries whom have far more sophisticated banking and payments systems.
I've held a long-term bag of $ETH for this reason. Ethereum's vision is to become a new financial internet. Like the internet of the 90s, the value proposition is quite basic: join or die. Look past the memelords and frauds, and you will find tech that is light years ahead of tradfi. The forces of finance aren't too different from communications. Money flows to the point of least friction and highest signal (returns), both of which are core competencies for decentralized financial networks with smart contracts.
I don't have a price target or a stop loss. This is the kind of investment where I'm perfectly happy being wrong 999 times out of 1000. Because the 1 time it works, you've created 1000 years of generational wealth. We're talking about an asset that is potentially so valuable that it would never be sold, just inherited.
Besides, if you could go back to 1990 and buy 0.001% of the internet, how much would that be worth today? What exists in the year 2024 that is worth trading that for?

In 2016, this retrace was -40% deep
Currently, $BTC is 32 days away from the Halving and has pulled back -11% this week
