Did you know @JMUFootball is 7-0 and unranked in the @AP_Top25? In the modern era (1989–present) that a team that is 7–0 and is completely unranked has never happened.

Four guys saying what’s right. One guy is tripping. Also please stop using JMU as the one/go to example for a blowout in a playoff game, they don’t deserve that. In a format that produced blowout after blowout after blowout, they held their own more than most have.
Our thoughts on the 24-team playoff on SEC Nation this morning.

SEC on espn was a crazy downgrade
College Football has changed so much in the 2020s that this game feels like it was 20 years ago and it’s only 7 years old

The G6 should push hard for Jason Eck’s proposal to at least have 3 autobids for the G6, awarded by play-in games for regular season champs. The ~3-5 loss #22/#23 P4 teams missing out is a tiny price to pay for meaningful playoff access to the entire subdivision.
Play 3 play-in games involving the champions of the Group of 6 leagues the weekend of Army-Navy. Allow winner of Army-Navy to jump lowest ranked winner if their resume is better.

We saw Texas Tech, $50m roster, BIG12 champion, score mathematically infinitely fewer points than JMU
I've been saying G6 needs its own division, playoffs, national title for 15 years. Tulane & JMU got DESTROYED in 1st round. G6 playoffs & national title would be best of both worlds for programs like NDSU, SDSU, USD. You still get that title chase w/o "watered down" FCS feel.

If you like points, go to CBS Sports. If you like kickers, go to ESPN. If you LOVE penalties, go to ESPN2.

Would Arkansas be working on the $500K media deal that James Madison has to work with? What would James Madison look like with $72 million a year from the SEC? Folks love to have this argument like Arkansas would have the same exact roster if the roles were reversed. I would wager, most if not all P4 programs would struggle trying to succeed if they had the budgets of most G6 schools.
Arkansas would be 12-0 and heading to the #CFP if they had JMU’s schedule. #SEC #SBC #WPS

Yep. Seems calculated too, as a way to tell their casual fans which teams and games matter. And they’ll have STRONG opinions on these teams when it comes to December. Even though they say they know nothing about teams, they’ll sure know “they’re bad” in December.
So sick of College Gameday and the little jabs they take at the rest of College Football. Pat McAfee: “I’m taking Sacramento State over Bowling Green, I know nothing about either of these teams!” Herbstreit: “Fresno State over Boise State. Is this a conference game? Oh yeah, PAC 12 I think.” Your job is literally to be the experts on ALL of college football, not just the SEC.

So DESERVING that they show up and score ZERO points during a playoff game ... against a team that JMU scored 34 points on with 500+ yards of offense just the game before A numbers guy that isn't really good with numbers, eh?
Allowing schools from non power conferences into the College Football Playoff is BAD for the sport. These teams will NEVER win anything substantial and their place takes a spot from a DESERVING team with a real shot to win it all.

It’s more so the unwillingness to take a risk. They’re actively canceling games they believe they have any chance of losing. But also, we’re not gonna get 76 G6 teams in a playoff. Just 1 or 2. And also. There are many G6 wins over G6 teams that are more impressive than a p4 win. Memphis’ win over UNLV is more impressive than UNLV’s win over Cal.

Way too many variables. But most notably is almost all games are p4 home games with conference officials. P4 teams almost never schedule the top G6 teams. Oregon / Boise is the exception to the rule. In graphics like this, a one score game between Oregon and Boise counts the same as WKU losing in Athens.
Down year for G6 schools vs P4 schools. Is it NIL/transfer portal or is there another issue? Via @ironfbstats

P4 teams rarely play road games against G6 teams, and they desperately avoid games with the best G6 teams. JMU, Memphis, NDSU, and Boise State had one P4 game this year. It was Boise State at Oregon, and it was a great game. But sure, all the "non-power" programs suck.
What college football has become w/the huge disparity b/w Power 4 & non-power programs budgets coupled w/the transfer portal
