"The machines that couldn’t stop, because they had been started, and the little men who had forgotten how to stop them, or even what they were for, looking at them and listening and wondering." ~ John W. Campbell

One of the core problems with social media is I get infinitely more interactions if I just say something snappy and angry about a hot button issue. A joke, a positive experience, a thoughtful dissection of something not in the zeitgeist these don't get interactions and so they give no positive neurochemical feedback.

Smash burgers are the worst burgers. I'd rather eat a sad turkey burger with a 10oz patty than a double smash burger with 2 burnt 2oz patties.

I appreciate the notion that X wants people to try X-Money and $15 is a small price to pay. Unfortunately it's banking, which has some legal requirements regarding ID and I do not provide my ID to any website. Not for $15. Not for $150.

Additionally, while I love X and SpaceX and most things Musk has done he has painted a target on himself and anything associated with him for powerful angry people with no morals to attack. Giving my ID and transferra money to X would be rather high risk at the moment. Lot of people out there would LOVE to 'punish' anyone associated with Musk's businesses and that seems like a likely vector of attack.

Gamers don't like AI made games Skilled developers don't like AI tools that screw up tasks the only people happy about this are uninformed investors and unskilled wanna be 'developers' who actually think it can get them a shippable product in 1/3rd the time. No. It makes a VISIBLE test in 1/6th the time and a shippable product in 8/6th the time. You spend longer fixing the AI slop and making it something shippable and performant than you saved vs just doing it yourself. by about 30%
We have a huge pivot underway here at Epic, moving developers around to retool for maximum AI acceleration. The aim isn't to do the same stuff with fewer people, but to enable everyone here to build MORE and BETTER stuff, and to bring the benefits to all teams using Unreal.

You know.... if you're going to have an "AI Narrator" you should probably listen to the video before you upload it. Models may have come a long way with natural speaking inflections and even faked inhalation sound but they still do basic things like confuse two words with the same spelling but wildly different meaning and it's a bit of an obvious giveaway.

Is there any company left that isn't focused on making literal trash just as fast as possible? Even one company in my field that still prioritizes creating a quality product over speed at literally all cost....

Since there is a moron in a position of power being a moron, allow me to make my position clear Death Penalty is not a punishment. It doesn't punish the individual. It is an easement. It lets the victims take some small modicum of solace and it removes a tax burden.

Margaret Hamilton is a hero of mine. An utterly incredible woman so far beyond average. Her work changed the course of humanity. Madame, we will never forget you.
We’ve lost an icon. Margaret Hamilton, a computer science pioneer best known for her work at MIT leading development of the flight software for the Apollo missions to the moon, has died at 90. Read about her legacy via MIT News: news.mit.edu/2026/margaret-h…

I have made the decision to stop renewing my multi-decade AOPA membership, then. Remaining on China's TikTok while hiding only from X is nakedly partisan. Pity, pilots and plane owners have advocacy issues beyond the left-right divide. AOPA becoming another partisan ACLU sucks.

"They were not curious! Man had lost the instinct of curiosity. Oh, not entirely! They wondered at the machines, they wondered at the stars. But they did nothing about it. It was not wholly lost to them yet, but nearly. It was dying."

If the concern was that AI would literally kill us sure. But that's never been the realistic doom state. The realistic doom is much simpler; dependance forming. I don't know which is worse. The companies investing in it for the hope of infinite tailor made digital circus to pacify the masses or the companies investing in it fully intent on giving people a tool to supplant cognitive effort and critical thinking. The former is idiotic because hedonic adaption makes it just another stop gap that will wear thin. The later is idiotic because it will destroy the very nature of humanity and the human mind. AI won't kill us. It will take care of us, long after we no longer have the skills to create AI.

I say this as someone who grew up doing my homework at a desk in bldg 7 at JSC. Cancelling the shuttle wasn't a mistake. Cancelling it when there wasn't a replacement ready was a mistake.
cancelling the space shuttle program was such a mistake this pic looks like a scene right out of star wars. we had it all

So apparently Google has decided to kill Google Assistant in favor of forcing Gemini on everyone. I know because I went to give a command to turn off a smart device and all I got was a "please switch to Gemini" screen. Unfortunately for Google and their pos Gemini, I know how to revert app versions. If you also want to stick with dumb but functional and not lying to you, grab both the Google app and Assistant app from before September of this year. Viola, like magic Assistant returns.
