A really important piece from @Maceyjoshua on the history of restructuring and why going back is the wrong path forward.
The power grid faces real challenges. Eliminating competition isn't the answer.
A new @hartfordcouant piece makes the case for fixing what isn't working while preserving competitive markets that encourage investment and protect consumers from unnecessary risk.

As New England states consider data center growth in the region, NEPGA's @DSMDolan highlights that, “If there is real interest in developing those facilities here, we need to lay the groundwork on how to site them, power them, and make sure they are done in a responsible way.”
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey Tuesday signed an Executive Order requiring data centers to receive local approval before seeking state permits, pay for their own clean energy, and adhere to water, air, and community engagement standards.

Jeff is spot on. It’s bizarre to me we’re having this debate again. Utility-owned generation does nothing to cut through the permitting, materials, or labor backlog that’s slowing new plants. But it will stifle necessary private capital investments. 🤷♂️
Replying to @EnergyLawJeff
Ironically, returning utilities to owning generation in rate base - and requiring customers to pay for that generation in rates for 30+ years regardless of how well they compete in the market - is kind of like a tax? 3/3

Derek articulates my absolute bewilderment. This is beyond any worst case scenario. Total gut punch.
It's weird that trading Brown to an arch-rival for a ricketty-legged Paul George and two picks was the very best that the Celtics can do, but it's much, much, much more unusual that Celtics looked at that deal and went "this we GOTTA do." Brown is under contract thru the next presidential administration. You can literally do nothing! The entire franchise would be better served if the front office stopped going to work this week.

I completely agree with @AcadiaCtr here, “There’s really not evidence that reversing 30 years of power sector restructuring is going to lower costs.” This bill is a really bad idea. I’m heartened to see so many raise concerns and the questions necessary. providencejournal.com/story/…

Todd Snitchler, @EPSAnews President and CEO, explains in @dcexaminer why you shouldn't trust utilities when they say they can't build generation.
Re-monopolizing the electricity system with guaranteed returns on generation benefits the utility, while shifting risks onto the backs of consumers.
