Today, a DPF team led by the Director Finance & Operations - Dr. Michael Mayanja Lugemwa - onboarded the @UNBSug Staff SACCO onto the Deposit Protection Scheme at the UNBS Headquarters in Namanve. The onboarding follows the SACCO's licensing by the Bank of Uganda. "This onboarding assures members that their protected savings are safeguarded thus enhancing confidence," Dr. Lugemwa said. To-date, seven out of the ten Large SACCOs that are now under the direct supervision of Bank of Uganda have been onboarded onto the deposit protection scheme, with plans to onboard the others by December. #Yourdepositsareprotected up to UGX 10m.

The CEO of the Deposit Protection Fund, Dr. Julia Oyet, today addressed participants on the second day of the @BOU_Official Townhall Meeting in Kabale, highlighting the critical role of deposit protection in safeguarding depositors and strengthening confidence in Uganda's financial sector. At the Bank of Uganda Townhall Meeting happening today in Kabale, the DPF Director Communications - Mr. Patrick Ezaga (@EzagaP) has stressed to the public that DPF ensures payment of up to UGX 10m in the event of closure of a regulated financial institution. He further highlighted that amounts above the protected limit are paid after the liquidation process. Onboarding onto the Deposit Insurance Scheme means eligible depositors enjoy the protection and confidence that comes with being under the purview of the Fund - an assurance that deposits are protected up to UGX 10 million - the current coverage limit in the event of Institutional failure. Deposits above the limit are paid by the liquidator after the liquidation process. We welcome Kihondo and other Large SACCOs that have to-date been licensed by the Central Bank.
