Hello! I'm trying to build my awareness of climate security experts across the disciplines in U.K. academia.
If you're doing research relevant to cli sec - can you tell me a few buzz words to summarise your focus so I can add you to my list of expertise?

This is an important thread from @DrSimEvans on what the NIC assessment yesterday said about net zero costs. Too little of the net zero cost debate considers costs of climate change impacts or fossil fuel infrastructure. There isn’t a cost-free ‘do nothing’ option.
UK media & net-zero
A parable in 4 parts, after y'day's @NatInfraCom rpt
1) Daily Mail makes up* "£1tn cost of net-zero"
2) Mail comment slams "£1tn"
3) Sun piles in too
4) NIC itself says its plan wld cut hhold costs

Carbon emissions from international shipping exceed those of a highly industrialised country such as Germany.
And 40% of all cargo (by weight) are fossil fuels on their way to be burned or chemicals derived directly from fossil fuels.

Increasing economic activities as a result of receding sea ice in the Arctic must not be at the expense of the environment or Arctic Indigenous Peoples.

A Tufton St guide to "honest debate" on net-zero (cont)
4⃣Pretend fossil-based tech is free
5⃣Ignore saving of buying less fossil fuel
6⃣Confuse MW & MWh so you can say wind costs £1,300,000/MWh (reality is £50-70/MWh)
7⃣Falsely assert gas power must close early & make up cost

Weird thing about Sunak's reported plan to ditch climate policies is that the people who are happiest on there are those who think he's scrapping net zero altogether, which he's not.

Powerful words from Governor Newsom of California
“The climate crisis is a fossil fuel crisis. Everything else, you’re playing around the margins, playing around the edges. This is the cause, we’re experiencing the effect, now we seek remedy, & that's what this lawsuit's about."
The state of California is suing five major fossil fuel companies over their contribution to the climate crisis.
Just listen to these unflinching words by governor @GavinNewsom.
