Reading company blogs just for passing the interview shouldn't be the sole moto
don't read a blog just because the company is famous. Read it because the article explains a problem, the constraints, the alternatives, and why the engineers chose their solution

What do Larry Kudlow, Janet Yellen, Steve Mnuchin, @econJaredB & me have in common? We all believe the permitting reform bill is essential for America to build, grow, tackle climate change and maintain our technological lead.
Probably the broadest letter I've ever signed.

Went under the radar but Anthropic have posted updates to the "Moonshot R&D projects" in their Frontier Safety Roadmap.
They've developed a protoype that verifies that outputs come from a particular set of model weights - and rolled out signing on all internal token traffic!

MiniMax M3.1 Flash: Space Performance + Bunny Speed
🚀🐰 Yes, Space Bunny - which has topped global leaderboards with 200T+ tokens - was an earlier version of M3.1 Flash.
💰Redefining the performance economics of agentic AI. M3.1 Flash achieves frontier-level intelligence across key tasks such as Cowork (Automation-Bench: 62%; ALE: 30%), Coding (DeepSWE: 74%) and Visual Reasoning (BabyVision: 91%), at 1/3 the cost of M3 and 3x the speed.
API pricing (flat rate): $0.15 / $0.60 per 1M input/output tokens, with cache reads at $0.015 / 1M tokens.
Model weights will arrive on Oct 23.

The runway is on Flat Point, the only flat land on the island. At 400 meters it's the shortest commercial runway in the world, with cliffs at both ends.
Winair's Twin Otters make it from St. Maarten in about 15 minutes.

The Roadster Rocket, if it can go 0–60 mph in just 0.55–0.59 seconds it would have an average G-force of nearly 5 G!
By comparison, a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch produces approximately 1.4 G at liftoff, increasing to a peak of around 4 to 4.5 G as the rocket burns fuel and becomes lighter.
At approximately 5 G, a 180-pound person experiences a seat-loading force equivalent to about 900 pounds during forward acceleration.
There's a reason why the Roadster Rocket will be sold by invitation only.

I’ve been saying it for a while - freely available Chinese open weight models that are near frontier aren’t long for this world. Will be surprised if there are any freely available within 18 months or less
Beijing just took a big step towards closing the Chinese frontier. The rules could give China's government the power to restrict AI developers from releasing their most advanced open-weight models.
It proposes banning exports of AI technologies that autonomously generate and modify malicious code. It also wants to restrict exports of AI-assisted vulnerability-discovery technologies. Giving a model away for free, ie open-weight, could qualify as an export.
Crucially, the rules distinguish between technologies already in the public domain and those not yet released. It specifically exempts existing open-source models. But new releases could potentially trigger export controls.
Providing foreign customers with access to models through APIs (ie, closed models) is generally exempt, whereas restricted models being served overseas could require a licence.
Beijing promises essentially automatic licensing for open-source releases, allowing developers to publish almost immediately after notification. But it's unclear whether this applies to those capabilities proposed for outright export prohibition.
If intelligence generalises, how can China's AI labs distinguish between a smart model and one that has the capabilities proposes for restrictions?

Postiz hitting $275k MRR so FAST is a great example of what I'm seeing: tools that agents use for things like posting, email, payments, phone numbers and browsing are going vertical.
A few other businesses I keep seeing go vertical:
- Data brokering. Selling rare/useful AND expert knowledge to labs and to companies training their own agents.
- Hosting for agents. Renting always on computers so people can run their agents 24/7. A lot of people want an agent working for them and have no idea how to set one up.
- Compute reselling. Buying GPU capacity in bulk and renting it out to smaller teams who need it for a few hours.
- Vertical harnesses. Agents built for one industry and one workflow, like insurance claims or construction bids.
- Skills. People are selling packaged skills that make an agent good at a specific job.
- Done for you agent setup. Local businesses are paying someone to set up agents for them, the same way they used to pay someone to build their website.
When you zoom out, almost all of these do one of three things. They sell to agents, they feed agents, or they house agents!
Postiz is now at:
- $275k in MRR
- 1,433 active trials
- 8,052 customers
And I keep on finding new places to get customers that my competitors don't go to. It's crazy!

In recent years, Bill McKibben has claimed to be a YIMBY trying to foment a "green building boom."
But that building boom can't happen without permitting reform.
And now McKibben says he's opposed to the bill 🫠

This is what Match act proponents are missing. If China is fully shut off from machines, they can and will shut off the flow of critical material to US/NL/JP equipment makers and then production grinds to a halt. No one will get them.
China has mapped out supply chains for targets for its export controls.

A couple more iterations and they will almost certainly catch up to OpenAI and Anthropic
They have a unique advantage right now because the frontier is stalled for “safety reasons”

TESLA: On October 8th in Taipei, Apollo Power, an emerging-market green energy integrator based in Taichung, signed a contract with Tesla Energy Taiwan to purchase 260 Megapack 2XLs totaling about 1 GWh (501 MW continuous discharge for 2 hours).
Deliveries are planned in batches from late 2027, with sites expected to enter operation in 2028 along Taiwan’s western industrial corridor for manufacturing, medical facilities, science parks, and AI data centers.
Apollo Chairman Wang Huimin said the roughly NT$13 billion ($410 million) project secures scarce storage amid tight global supply to support resilient behind-the-meter grids.
Tesla Energy Taiwan General Manager Sun Xiaohan stated global Tesla Energy deployments exceed 50 GWh, offered a 20-year factory warranty and O&M. She also noted a June 2026 Grid-Forming demonstration at Phison.

i'm happy meta is "catching up to the frontier" but the fact that there is NOT EVEN ONE plot with x axis cost and y axis score in the blog or evaluation card (only bar plots) gives a very sus vibe. it's a very confusing way to release a model at best, and dishonest at worst
this is the only plot that we have and shows that Muse Wonder (Max) is slightly worse than Gemini 4 (high) while being more than 2x costly. i wouldn't overfit on this AA plot either but it's nonsense to release your "major" model with only bar plots..

Pivotal Research raised its $SPCX target to $230 from $220, about 41% upside. The reason is Starlink Mobile.
Pivotal's argument is simple. After the $8B buy of 800 MHz spectrum, SpaceX is effectively a new low-cost carrier, starting with rural and suburban customers "bundled with the dish already on the roof." Starlink already has the customer and the hardware, and now it has the spectrum.
The catch is cost. JPMorgan and Goldman both expect SpaceX will need ground towers in cities, unless it leases them from a carrier.
Q3 consensus is $12.98B in revenue, up about 66% from Q2's $7.81B. Q2 AI revenue grew 247%. Telecom is a new line on top of a business that's already compounding.
