This is really quite shocking from Shami Chakrabarti. "This foolish motion" is what the vast majority of Palestinians believe.
Perhaps she could explain to them how it is that she - miraculously - came to understand their own lived experience better than they do.
If you want to debate tactics and strategy, fine. But that's not what she's doing.
Coming from a member of a party that has materially assisted the wholesale slaughter of small children for the last 3 years it is frankly obscene.

Not enough people know this: in practice, the IMF is controlled by the US.
The US is the only country that has de facto veto power at the IMF because the biggest decisions require an 85% supermajority of total voting power. The US' vote share is 16.5%
This was by design, and the supermajority threshold was actually moved in 1978 so that the US vote share would continue to give the country veto power.
We should not see the IMF as an organisation that serves global development.
We should see is as an organisation that serves mainly Western interests — and, above all, US interests.

Before the genocide, Gaza had approximately 2 million olive trees. More than 90% have been lost to the occupation's destruction. Trees that stood for generations, providing food, income, and sustenance to Palestinian families, are gone.

The olive harvest is more than a tradition in Palestine. It is our history, our identity, and our connection to the land passed down through generations.
Despite the loss and destruction, here in Nuseirat on October 8, we are still teaching children how to harvest olives from the trees that remain. Despite everything they have lost, families still feel blessed by what their land provides.
This is Palestine. Gratitude for every olive, love for every tree, and a determination to pass these traditions to the next generation.

Local time was 2:30 am. After midnight!!!!

🚨 Due to funding shortages, WFP is forced to reduce food assistance in Gaza by around one-third, meaning half a million people will lose access to critical aid.
The cuts come as winter approaches and the recent modest improvements in food security remain fragile.
From this month, we are supporting 1.1 million of the most vulnerable people in Gaza with food and cash assistance, down from 1.6 million last month. Food rations will also be cut by half.
WFP urgently calls for additional funding in order to keep reaching the most vulnerable in Gaza and the West Bank.

At first, you see two people running, each carrying the body of a small child. But what follows is even more devastating: a young girl discovers her brother lying in a pool of his own blood. His head has been smashed by shrapnel.

For many of these children, this is their first time returning to a classroom since the genocide began, and their first pair of new shoes after years of displacement, loss, and deprivation.
On October 5, The Sameer Project, in partnership with Small Steps Project, distributed 343 pairs of shoes to students at Dar Al-Huda School in Beit Lahia, North Gaza for a total of $4,660 after commission of 11%, and including a clown to pass them out!
For just over $13 per pair, we gave these children more than shoes. We gave them a little dignity, excitement, and a sense of normalcy as they begin a new school year.
