He doesnt get there are tens of thousands of acres of State forests being illegally fenced off by various actors over the last 15 years with no environmental impact study by CEA.- from aloevera by Willpattu border to mango plantations in Galgamuwa jungles and so many inbetween.
Will this Govt have the balls to inspect every Donation of State land with an extent over 2acres specially after 2009? If not for our Supreme Court a robed thug will still be growing mangoes in hundreds of acres in State forests in Galgamuwa.!!
Main problem-idiotic and at times corrupt handing over of huge tracts of State forests under the guise of mass scale land grabs - not by the poor farmers but by so many who didnt deserve State grants. Add this to huge scale illegal activities in gem mining, sand, cannabis etc
All these elements hide behind the traditional paddy farmer to validate their 'Rights'. Come election time these are donors to local politics. So many of the elephant killings come from these hands. We started this mass carnage only after 2000s- 20 years after Mahaweli project.
How many vacancies are still there in Department of Wildlife??
Why wasnt it done??
Govt hired tens of thousands to public service in the last 2 years.
Why have we failed to fill the need in Wildlife Dept and Forest Dept??
Leg shot on Kawanthissa could be with intent to maim.

Jungle corridors used by elephants over millennia.. until the settlers took over either by Mahaweli scheme or at the whims of politicos. Most these prehistoric historic paths lasted till the mid 90s. End result : we killed 4000 of them in the last 10 years and over 1000 people.

Govt opened 3 corridors in July 26. Need more. Only few corridors suffered under Mahaweli. The rest fell for politico schemes -Swarnabhoomi, Jayabhoomi, Urumaya etc gifting forests...

A few dozen of these buses could remove over 5000 cars that do daily runs. Its the regulars who clog the morn and evening traffic -not the visitors who avoid Kandy like the plague by those times.But if Metros run here like in Colombo, then we have made a problem get worse.
Metro service in Kandy must focus primarily on discouraging Private car use into Town. That must be the primary segment. Run the service from Theldeniya and Gelioya. Create a season ticket system aimed primarily at those who use pvt vehicles. Over 2000 public servants use cars.
Both morning and evening runs must focus on regulars driving cars to work .Kandy is the worst town in Srilanka in terms of air pollution. Adding more buses will make it worse unless a careful strategy is set to discourage pvt cars among regular guys. Metro might do the trick .

What about the school where one studied before he entered a big school.
Me a proud Rajan but this selection is classism.
