A truck loaded with thousands of copies of Roget's Thesaurus spilled its load leaving Toronto. Witnesses were stunned, startled, aghast, stupefied, confused, shocked, rattled, paralyzed, dazed, bewildered, surprised, dumbfounded, flabbergasted, confounded, astonished, and numbed.

🧵 I want to show you something Toronto has quietly built on Ookwemin Minising, because I think it says something about how we think of public space.
This is the Waterfront Neighbourhood Space.
And the entire premise is remarkably simple:
Public space should have people in it.

The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”.
The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.
We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms.
Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.

I was given my name by the Iroquois Nation many hundreds of years ago. By 1660 my name was printed on maps by the Europeans as they accepted the Native name which means Beautiful waters.
In 1867 the Canadian government decided to use my name for their providence.

We are feeling Lake Ontario all day long, @googlemaps @googlecanada ... and you too @Apple maps
We do not want to see "Lake Ontario (Lake America)" on our maps, and neither does anyone else except Donald Trump.

Toronto’s largest park in a generation is getting even bigger—adding 10 new acres of waterfront parkland on Ookwemin Minising. From Canoe Cove and the expanded Water’s Edge Promenade to new public art and gathering spaces, this is a major milestone in reconnecting the city to its waterfront.
More to explore, more to come, opening July 25th, 2026.

I am a signatory to this letter.
Open, fully informed and unbiased public hearings are required, supported by due diligence and meaningful analysis.
The public cannot be expected to provide informed feedback when neither the proposal nor its impacts have been properly presented.
Forgive us for being suspicious, but all we have so far is a process the Province deliberately rushed into place to cut Torontonians out, and a federal consultation process built around a survey that reflects neither the complexity of the issue nor the information needed to properly evaluate it.

Canada's team is for everyone. So is our performance centre.
We've partnered with the City of Toronto to announce plans to develop the team’s first dedicated performance centre in downtown Toronto. The purpose-built facility will serve as not only a high-performance training home for the Tempo, but also a hub for grassroots engagement, investing in both elite athlete development and community access to sport.
Scheduled to open in 2028, located just steps from Coca-Cola Coliseum, the facility will feature two WNBA regulation courts, state-of-the-art player amenities, and thoughtfully designed locker rooms equipped with every resource world-class athletes need to train, recover and prepare for championship-calibre play.
