A truck loaded with thousands of copies of Roget's Thesaurus spilled its load leaving Toronto. Witnesses were stunned, startled, aghast, stupefied, confused, shocked, rattled, paralyzed, dazed, bewildered, surprised, dumbfounded, flabbergasted, confounded, astonished, and numbed.

GDP per capita on its own is a weak proxy for living standards between rich countries, anyways heres regions of North America based on the Human Development Index.
A lot of people speculating on what this increase in early voters might mean in terms of the final result but I haven’t seen anyone note the influence that this weekend’s Kids Vote may have had on turnout. These may just be parents who took their kids to vote & did so as well.
The City of Toronto says turnout is dramatically up at advance voting for the 2026 municipal election.
This year, 222,550 people voted early. That compares to:
2023 – 129,745 votes
2022 – 115,911 votes
2018 – 124,299 votes
2014 – 161,147 votes #ToPoli

🧵 I want to show you something Toronto has quietly built on Ookwemin Minising, because I think it says something about how we think of public space.
This is the Waterfront Neighbourhood Space.
And the entire premise is remarkably simple:
Public space should have people in it.

The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”.
The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.
We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms.
Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.

I was given my name by the Iroquois Nation many hundreds of years ago. By 1660 my name was printed on maps by the Europeans as they accepted the Native name which means Beautiful waters.
In 1867 the Canadian government decided to use my name for their providence.

We do not want to see "Lake Ontario (Lake America)" on our maps, and neither does anyone else except Donald Trump.

Toronto’s largest park in a generation is getting even bigger—adding 10 new acres of waterfront parkland on Ookwemin Minising. From Canoe Cove and the expanded Water’s Edge Promenade to new public art and gathering spaces, this is a major milestone in reconnecting the city to its waterfront.
More to explore, more to come, opening July 25th, 2026.

I am a signatory to this letter.
Open, fully informed and unbiased public hearings are required, supported by due diligence and meaningful analysis.
The public cannot be expected to provide informed feedback when neither the proposal nor its impacts have been properly presented.
Forgive us for being suspicious, but all we have so far is a process the Province deliberately rushed into place to cut Torontonians out, and a federal consultation process built around a survey that reflects neither the complexity of the issue nor the information needed to properly evaluate it.
