BAAJA blasts through the geothermal-fossil permitting parity gap: For two decades, oil and gas on federal land have had a faster permitting track than geothermal. A new Senate bill includes provisions that would close most of that gap. publicenterprise.org/baaja-b…

New: A new poll finds the most persuasive arguments for a bipartisan Senate permitting deal have little to do with climate policy. Voters responded most strongly to messages about lowering utility bills and making data centers pay. Climate-focused arguments ranked near bottom.

One of the best ways to add nuclear power is to expand our operating plants: 345 MW of uprates at Southern, 433 MW at Vistra, 890 MW from Constellation & Google, & ~2.25 GW of restarts at Palisades, Crane & Duane Arnold. DOE's UPRISE aims for 5 GW by 2029. @GovNuclear @ENERGY ⚛️

My take on the new permitting reform bill @ForeignPolicy. It is among the most important policy measures in decades to advance clean energy, meet rising energy needs, and rein in soaring energy prices--and very likely to lead to a net reduction in carbon emissions. When paired with strong climate policy, it is also necessary to allow the rapid buildout of infrastructure needed to drive emissions sharply down. Rejecting it because it may also benefit oil and gas projects would sacrifice a historic opportunity to advance American security, affordability, and clean energy goals simultaneously. foreignpolicy.com/2026/10/14…

This! 👇👇👇👇
Another good explanation of why it's either this federal permitting reform bill, or nothing until at least 2029, if ever. It's fine to oppose the bill on merits. But let's dispense with the pretense there's some better deal waiting in January 2027. There is not. If you oppose the bill, you support the status quo for the foreseeable future. Defend and own that position.

Statement from CEBA CEO @powellrich on the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act: "This bipartisan package is a generational opportunity to unleash abundant American energy through faster infrastructure permitting and improved transmission planning. Thank you to Chairs @SenCapito and @SenMikeLee, Ranking Members @SenWhitehouse and @SenatorHeinrich, and @POTUS for your leadership on this critical issue.

The biggest risk to the permitting reform bill isn't green groups, it's the utility interests that have helped torpedo every prior deal. Keep an eye on the action here...
How do we know utilities will try to block, weaken or kill transmission reforms Congress is considering now? They've done it many times before. Here are examples, mostly from the Southeast, courtesy of Southern, Entergy, and Duke. 1/ latitudemedia.com/news/why-f…

Yup. 👇👇👇👇
Reforming our permitting processes -- including enabling interregional transmission planning, permitting, and paying -- is a necessary but insufficient condition for decarbonization. A permitting bill alone won't solve climate change, of course. It *IS* necessary, though.

… “bad faith concern trolling” … gonna steal that phrase. 🤓
The push for "permitting certainty" has always combined two forces: a good-faith effort by policy advocates to constrain retroactive executive meddling, and bad-faith concern trolling by certain Democrats to excuse why they'll never support bipartisan permitting reform.

Curious how the modeling assumptions address clean energy builds absent significant Tx capacity additions, plus how a lack of permitting certainty/technology neutrality affects wind and solar deployment. TY 👍🏻
I am seeing a lot of takes from people like @mattyglesias and others on the 400+ page permitting bill. But unlike others, we’re assessing against the reality we live in today, not only the future we want.
