With a heavy heart, the DC Police Union regrets to announce the passing of Investigator Apolinar D. Nunez, affectionately known as “Nuney.” Nuney joined MPD on August 6, 2007, and most recently was assigned to the Violent Crime Suppression Division. A decorated Army combat veteran, devoted husband, and loving father to five daughters, he dedicated his life to serving others. His kindness, generosity, and friendship will never be forgotten. Please keep his wife, daughters, loved ones, and fellow officers in your prayers during this heartbreaking time. Rest peacefully brother. You will always be part of our Union family.

The members of @DCPoliceUnion wish everyone a safe, healthy and Merry Christmas. Special Thanks to all first responders who must be away from their families this Christmas to keep our streets safe. Also, please send prayers for our 1D officer who remains in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on I-695 two nights ago.

These charts say that 72% of residents think crime is at least “a serious problem” and that half of residents are worried about being a victim of crime at any given moment. Not exactly the Mayberry you’re seeking to portray.
A fascinating new WaPo poll shows that despite Trump's claims that D.C. is a dystopian hellscape run by criminal gangs, the percentage of residents who say crime is a serious problem is down significantly from 2023 and 2024. Also, fears of assaults and carjackings are down.

Thank you @RepPeteStauber and the Members who signed his letter urging @SecretaryBurgum & @NatlParkService to approve a home-to-work vehicle program for USPP officers. Letting officers deploy directly from home means faster crisis response and safer communities. THANK YOU to @RepWesterman @RepTiffany @RepWebster @RepEzell @MarkAmodeiNV2 @RepWalberg @RepJeffHurd for being champions of law enforcement!

DC crime since the announcement of federal control versus the 7 days prior: Robbery ⬇️46% ADW ⬇️6% Carjacking ⬇️83% Car Theft ⬇️21% Violent Crime ⬇️22% Property Crime ⬇️6% All Crimes⬇️8% While federal assistance gives us a boost, we must repeal the misguided Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Act in order to make these changes permanent.

Today, the United States Park Police dropped below 500 sworn officers - far fewer officers than we had in the early 1970s. The White House and @Interior have tasked us with “Making DC Safe and Beautiful Again;” however, nothing has been done to fix our staffing crisis! #HR1260

Assault a law enforcement officer, and you’ll be prosecuted. This guy thought it was funny—well, he doesn’t think it’s funny today, because we charged him with a felony.

Last night, DC suffered the grave milestone of its 100th homicide for 2025. Let’s hope this federal intervention leads to real change to the laws in DC that allow this to happen year after year.
UPDATE: the shooting near Logan Circle is now a homicide investigation, after a man was shot several times & pronounced dead a short time later, per MPD. DC Police homicide detectives investigating as the 100th homicide of 2025 in Washington DC. h/t @potomacpressdc #DCCrime

This you?
Taking over our police department and deploying hundreds of National Guard members is not the hard work of public safety – it is a show of force without impact. This is a manufactured intrusion on local authority. Full statement:

Violent crime in DC is way up—residents & visitors are right to be concerned. The @POTUS wants USPP to secure the city, but our staffing has plummeted—now the lowest since the early ’70s. We’ve warned @SecretaryBurgum & Congress for months. Only @RepNicole has acted. #HR1260

Our proud FOP members put their lives on the line to make DC Safe and Beautiful! @POTUS, @GOPoversight and @SecretaryBurgum need to support our Officers by enacting #HR1260 NOW!!!! Our recruitment and retention crisis endangers the officers/public! #BackTheBlue like you mean it!
Overnight, USPP officers and our federal partners collaborated to enforce EO 14252, Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful. Our teams made arrests for possession of two stolen firearms and illegal drugs removing these dangerous items from the community.

Hilarious article @fox5dc. Your “criminal law expert” Donte Mills failed to realize we charge crimes through the D.C. Court System, not U.S. District court - the same as D.C. Police. We share the same authority as our @DCPoliceUnion brothers and sisters. fox5dc.com/news/four-arreste…
