Alcohol destroys more families and marriages than tobacco, not even because of alcoholism. It also makes it very hard for people w mental health issues to get better. Alcohol is the great self med solution to everything from depression and mania to schizophrenia and OCD. It also destroys careers and causes psychological damage. So smoke em if you got em but pour that drink in the compost bucket where it can do some good.

I’m guessing never for me. I love my wife and she is more beautiful now at 70 to me than ever. But Emily Wickersham? Halle Berry? Supriya Ganesh? Beauty is what I am looking for in life?.

I hear hokey jingoism and overt schmaltz. Early 1960s rock and roll was devil's music and American Exceptionalism was firmly planted as a centerpiece in country clubs all over America, and schmaltz was a soporific for the masses. Real folk might have worked better.

Yo! Gotta say, it gets to feel like self-stupidery on Twitter here more and more every day. I will this, though, its not as pointless and perfect as Blue Sky.

This is me after peeing yesterday. I held it for two hours while I was figuring out how to make a really piss-poor story fun at least to read and somewhat more meaningful than it's original version (which suuuucked). Ah!

Well yes possibly true for some modern writing, but not the modern classics ... right? e.g. Underworld, 2666, Beloved, 1Q84, Milkman, Slaughter-house 5, 100 Years of Solitude, etc. Classics are classics for the reasons you state. Right? Modern writing...oy! Modern publishing...Double Oy! Publishing always...Triple Oy! Fack!

Truly one of my favorite movies growing up. Oh my goodness! But how unbelievably idiotic that music is! And how idiotically unbelievable we were back then that anyone would think they were helping a massive movie extravaganza like HWWW with that over the top goofiness. No offense to the extended Newman composing family, I hope.

Ah, disaster films. What an era! Claustrophobia and that sinking feeling in that movie. Can't remember if very many survive, but I do recall TV and B actors showing up and a lot of them dying. But the greatest of them all survives, yes? McHale his dang self!

I am a slow reader. Very slow. But I have been enjoying Moby-Dick a few pages at a time now for several years first and foremost because I love the narrative voice.

Also, some of the classics' problem is that they are translations.
