I'm working on Part II of this story/novella. If you've read it, and want to read more about one of the characters (or less about one), let me know! Call it fiction in flux-- everything about it is (Franzen Cliche Alert) up for grabs.
Yes, I write, as well as running a literary site.
My latest, "Midterm Madness," is a look at America now.

If even ONE of these four rumors or contentions is true, he'll go down as the worst president in U.S. history.
-Trump raped young teenagers.
-Trump is a Russian puppet.
-Trump planned the Jan 6 attempted coup.
-Trump staged his own shooting.
If all four are true? 🤨

"Literature was not promulgated by a pale and emasculated critical priesthood singing their litanies in empty churches – nor is it a game for the cloistered elect, the tinhorn mendicants of low calorie despair."

The idea with multidimensional writing technique, used in this story, is to capture the chaotic craziness of the world we live in now. Part II is coming.
How to be political and topical in fiction.
"No! You can't do that!" establishment literary people scream.

They say inflation is 3.7%.
- My streaming & data subscriptions all just went up 20%
- My flood insurance is up 100% over the last 5 years
- My grocery bills are up 50% over the past year
- Electric bills are up 20%
The only 3.7% I see is the amount gas goes up every day.

The Iron Law of Institutions hit me in the face so hard five years ago that I'm still reeling, because it's as provable in practice as gravity.
#NFL football seems to be in a state of flux. Standard strategies and tactics are no longer working. Games have become unpredictable. New ideas are already being tried.
What should be in a state of flux, but isn't, is our literature.
The DIY mantra in the 1990s: Don't sell out!
We've seen the results of failure to heed that advice, with Congress, with media, maybe even in our literature.
The center-right solution for Ukraine: Munich II. Neville Chamberlain standing on an airport runway waving a meaningless, toothless piece of paper.

I was a GOP voter for my entire adult life until 2016, and right now every single one of them makes me feel vomitous. They are smarmy liars, cheats, manipulators, and frauds. And considering what their capitulation to Trump has now led to-they’re traitors. They disgust me.

It's kinda comical to see a few center-right media outlets still pretending there's anything normal about the Trump Administration. There's nothing normal, populist, or conservative about any of them. Just a collection of money-grabbing thieves and scoundrels.

I cannot believe we, as in America, are standing with russia. The invader. With putin the dictator. America has fallen so far under the trump regime. Even after trump is gone the world will never look at us the same ever again. We will never be trusted. maga you are the biggest traitors to our country. You put this guy in our White House and you still stand behind him as he destroys us. You’re NOT America First you are fucking TRAITORS. Take the “patriot” out of your profile and replace it with “trump cult”. So sick of what is happening.

I haven't had anyone say how accurate or inaccurate this "fictional" political-satirical look at political campaigns is.

Some lively orchestral music, Moncayo's "Huapango," conducted by Gustavo Dudamel.
Has a populist, mid-20th Century vibe to it.
