Today, we remember the unimaginable tragedy that unfolded three years ago, following the barbaric terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas against Israel on October 7, 2023. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the hundreds of innocent victims, and everyone traumatized by this heinous attack. Cyprus is steadfast in condemning all acts of terrorism and rejects any form of antisemitism. We join calls in urging for the disarmament of Hamas and the full implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan under UNSCR 2803, with the vision of paving the way to a two-state solution, with the aim of sustainable peace and security.

I had an excellent meeting today with my dear friend President @Christodulides in Cyprus. One day, I hope that we can meet here together with the President of Lebanon too. For this, we must move toward peace in our region, while making sure that the threat of terror is removed.

A deeply moving evening of remembrance, music and living testimony marked 80 years since the opening of the British detention camps in Cyprus. The packed event, organised by the Cyprus Ma’apilim Organisation and the Palmach House, brought together people born in the camps and descendants of Jewish refugees who grew up with their parents’ stories. The audience sang along passionately, keeping those memories alive. In his address, Ambassador of Cyprus to Israel Kornelios Korneliou praised the Organisation’s important work in preserving the history and testimonies of the camps for future generations. He was also honoured for the Embassy’s contribution to its work. A particularly poignant moment came when Christakis Papavasiliou shared stories of his father, Prodromos Papavasiliou, the Cypriot humanitarian who helped thousands of Jewish refugees during that period. Mr Papavasiliou was also honoured for carrying forward his father’s remarkable legacy. An accompanying exhibition of photographs and historical objects from the camps will remain open for one year. Eight decades later, this shared history continues to unite the people of Cyprus and Israel. 🇨🇾🇮🇱 #Cyprus #Israel #CyprusMaapilim #SharedHistory #Remembrance

When diplomacy meets creativity, great ideas are ready for take-off! 🇨🇾✈️🇮🇱 The Embassy of Cyprus in Israel was delighted to bring together the @DepMinTourismCy and Netanya Academic College for a hands-on project promoting Cyprus as a tourism destination. At the heart of this initiative was Ms Louisa Varaclas, Director for Israel at the Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Tourism and a member of the Embassy team. She developed the professional brief, coordinated the project from start to finish and chaired the judging committee alongside four faculty members. Inspired by the brief, 88 students from the Schools of Communication and Business Administration formed 27 teams and developed original advertising campaigns for Cyprus. At the award ceremony, Ambassador Kornelios Korneliou praised the students for bringing academia closer to diplomacy and becoming Cyprus’s ambassadors in Israel—while inspiring more Israelis to discover the island. The winning team of three students received a trip to Cyprus, while all 88 participants were surprised with specially designed travel trolleys, courtesy of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism. Nobody left empty-handed—and everyone is now ready for Cyprus! 🧳 Congratulations to the students and their mentor, Mr Uri Ovrutzki, for turning creativity into diplomacy. @visitcyprus #CyprusInIsrael #CyprusTourism #CyprusIsrael #CreativeDiplomacy

Yeter. Enough.

Israel reaffirms its unwavering support for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus and stands in solidarity with Cyprus, on the anniversary of the 1974 Turkish invasion. The ongoing Turkish military presence in the north of the island, alongside Ankara's persistent attempts to alter the status quo through unilateral actions, is unacceptable. As a strategic partner and neighbor of Cyprus, Israel calls for the resumption of negotiations toward a just, viable, and lasting solution to the conflict.

20.07.1974 Fifty-two years later, Turkey continues to illegally occupy 37% of our homeland, perpetuating one of the gravest crimes in post-war European history. For 52 years, it has refused to account for the fate of the missing persons, continued its illegal settlement policy, destroyed our religious and cultural heritage, and deprived all Cypriots of their right to live freely in their own country. These actions constitute a blatant violation of international and European law, the Charter of the United Nations, and the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus, as well as the fundamental freedoms and human rights of all Cypriots. Fifty-two years later, the wound remains open. The sirens of tragedy continue to echo. We do not forget. We do not compromise. We do not accept the fait accompli. The absence of a solution is not a solution. We do not accept partition. Our goal remains the end of the illegal occupation, the liberation and reunification of our homeland. Guided by memory and justice, we remain committed to achieving a sustainable and viable solution based on the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, the principles and values of the European Union, and the EU acquis. Enough.
