There are two types of Millionaires: 1. The "I got lucky, I couldn't do it again" millionaires: think people who bought a family home in 1998, or the guy who bought his drugs with Bitcoin in 2014 and accidently kept 15 of them. 2. The "I could do this again" millioniares: think propper entrepreneurs, property developers, highly skilled proffesionals, entertainers. These people build economies around them and they can do it anywhere at any time. When you hear about the UK losing 10,000 millionaires per year, we aren't talking about the first kind - we're losing the types of millionaires who can (and will) do it again. These people are massive economic drivers. Each one of them might have 100 jobs that are made possible by what they are doing. They are lighting rods of opportunity and the accelerants for money flow. We are also losing the "soon to be millionaires". Some of the brightest 20-somethings I know have moved to Dubai now. These are people who will be the economic drivers in the 2030s. They are people who will likely have career earnings in the 10s of millions and create hundreds of good jobs around them - gone. The UK is now 40% behind the USA economically based on GDP per capital. That is an economic cost of £1.2TRILLION per year in GDP. This didn't happen because of geography or weather, this happened because of government policy. Our utterly terrible tax system and regulation systems are costing the UK it's future. Until that is fixed, we will become a nation that loses it's best talent.
