I started preaching when I was 16. From the ages of 26 to 48, I spent more hours in church buildings than in my own home. I was 100% committed.
I walked away from faith 13 years ago.
On a scale of 0-100 how much do I worry that leaving was a mistake: Zero!

I'm at that terrifying stage of #deconversion where I'm sprinting headlong into a bright new life I can see just around the corner while the fear of living without "God" is constantly snapping at my heels trying to bite me and drag me back. Just keep running. #exchristian

Great question.
Thoughts?
I wish therapists understood that religious trauma is just as real as any other type of trauma. Just because something is cloaked in religious language doesn't mean it's healthy.

Christianity needs to drop the label “non-affirming.” It’s too gentle a term to describe the decision to harbor and sow and unleash deadly homophobia in the name of God. You’re not “non-affirming,” you’re homophobic and killing the image of God in children of God.

Do you want to know the truth???? When I finally came to terms with my sexuality I wasn’t actually worried about God loving me and accepting me. I was worried about the people around me. Somehow inside I already reconciled with God. It’s his people that I’m afraid of.

For now we see dimly, as through Zoom with a bad internet connection. But then we will see face to face.
