I started preaching when I was 16. From the ages of 26 to 48, I spent more hours in church buildings than in my own home. I was 100% committed. I walked away from faith 13 years ago. On a scale of 0-100 how much do I worry that leaving was a mistake: Zero! #exChristian

Told my non-religious girlfriend about prayer walking last night. Oh man. That was a thing that I used to do. 😳 -T
Sometimes when I share too much of my Christian upbringing, I get really self-conscious, thinking I’ve finally crossed the Too Weird threshold. This happened last night when I remembered that prayer walking is a thing. (1/5) -T
Podcast spinoff! In one of our episodes, Trish mentioned that’s she’s been telling her girlfriend (who has no Christianity experience) stories from the Bible. Now they have a podcast of just that!
I made a podcast with my girlfriend! Telling her the Bible stories I grew up with and hearing her questions, concerns, and shock has helped me deconstruct biblical literalism in real time.

You’ll like @soyouredating if you are dating someone with a different faith background, if you want to join Trish in deconstructing biblical literalism, and if you want to enjoy stories in the Bible as fantasy romps rather than capital t Truth.

I've really been thinking about this lately - why do so many modern Christians support 45? But I think this woman is on to something. What do you think? - A

Kyle, my heart break for you. What was done to you was horrible and unjust. Your kindness and compassion in spite of it all is humbling to read, and I truly hope you continue to find healing. ❤️ - A

I'm at that terrifying stage of #deconversion where I'm sprinting headlong into a bright new life I can see just around the corner while the fear of living without "God" is constantly snapping at my heels trying to bite me and drag me back. Just keep running. #exchristian

Great question. Thoughts? I wish therapists understood that religious trauma is just as real as any other type of trauma. Just because something is cloaked in religious language doesn't mean it's healthy.

Recently a #Christian friend burned - yes, burned - my book about another #religion that I was reading (because I'm a curious cat and wanted to know what this religion believed) after I accidentally left it at their house. That's it. That's the tweet. #exvangelical #exchristian

And fear of the unknown: what will shape my life now? What will provide meaning and purpose? -T
Why is so hard to leave Christianity? As an #exvangelical I have some thoughts as to why: 1. Sunk cost fallacy 2. Potential loss of community/family 3. Hell awaits if we’re wrong 4. Self-loathing (how could I have believed this?) Would you add anything else? #exchristian

Christianity needs to drop the label “non-affirming.” It’s too gentle a term to describe the decision to harbor and sow and unleash deadly homophobia in the name of God. You’re not “non-affirming,” you’re homophobic and killing the image of God in children of God.

Do you want to know the truth???? When I finally came to terms with my sexuality I wasn’t actually worried about God loving me and accepting me. I was worried about the people around me. Somehow inside I already reconciled with God. It’s his people that I’m afraid of.

Christian privilege is very rarely discussed within Christian circles, even though there are enormous privileges that come with the label in most Western societies. Instead, a narrative of persecution is taught. What do you think is the danger in this?
