Youtube receives millions of uploads a day. The market has rejected gatekeeping. What happens next is that Epic and (maybe) Steam will work on solving the discovery problem and introduce discovery algorithms that function like the youtube shorts feed. Gatekeepers never win.

Now that intelligence is cheap and detached from human effort, being smart, diligent, and thoughtful will command less of a premium, and being attractive, charismatic, and (especially) already rich will matter more. This is not a recipe for a just and virtuous society.
Hard work and intelligence used to grant you a great deal of leverage—a very unfair situation! Now, thanks to AI, the tyranny of the smart is over, and now the weak and dispossessed—people who are merely super hot, or good at social media, or already have money—have their turn.

I’m starting to get increasingly uncomfortable with the economics of AI as it is currently happening It seems fundamentally wrong that a small number of people with access to a huge amounts of VC money can vacuum up all the contributions of humanity, often paying nothing for it, then turn around and get enormously rich while the many people who put all the work into creating the training data get nothing I am generally pro-AI, but the way it is happening is seeming increasingly parasitic to me

The EU is asking the public what they think about forcing everyone to verify their identity before they can get permission to read, write and share information online, while outlawing online anonymity. I will provide formal expert feedback, but I’ll lead with one question. Why do their online child safety campaigns revolve around images of 4 year old children that every parent should already be able to protect? Children aged 4 or 5 are not creating social media accounts themselves. If they are, they should probably be on a shortlist to work for NASA. Smartphones already give parents the controls to block apps, block websites, restrict content and set time limits for their own children. So why does protecting a 4 year old require every adult to prove who they are before they can communicate online? If people comment, I’ll gather as many responses as I can for a white paper, alongside data from previous posts that generated more than 1 million impressions and heavy engagement. It’s time we properly documented what people actually think about identity verification, online anonymity and government surveillance under the guise of do-called “child safety”. If you comment, please keep it respectful and constructive.
What should a safer internet look like for minors? The Commission is seeking your views on the proposed EU KIDS Act. Share your thoughts and help shape safer digital spaces for children. Have your say by 26 November 2026! 🔗link.europa.eu/PJcw98
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The commission doesn't seek anyone views as the Chat control proposal has been rejected multiple times in the EU parliament, yet still pushed by unelected bureaucrats Parents are in charge of their kids, not the state Detecting minors means everyone needs to provide their IDs techradar.com/vpn/vpn-privac… fightchatcontrol.eu

UPDATE: Charles Hoskinson slams the EU, says "why I don't trust you Europeans with your Digital Euro, is we all know what you're gonna do with it—asset and transaction discrimination. Don't believe it? Well then put it in some sort of law that you're not gonna do it."

Ross of @accursedfarms explains how the EU Kids Act is cover for making private servers without age verification illegal, and doing the exact opposite of protecting kids in order to establish a surveillance state. Here's how to fight back: -Sign and spread the #StopKillingInternet Initiative if you're an EU citizen of voting age (friends and family count too!): eci.ec.europa.eu/066/public/ - Leave a public comment about the EU Kids Act Be polite and civil. This isn't Twitter or social media, but a direct public comment to the Commission. They're under no obligation to take people seriously if people misbehave or get out of hand. Write like you'll have to give your comment in person to your town hall or local government: ec.europa.eu/info/law/better… - Read up on the EU Kids Act: eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-cont… - The leaked proposal of the Kids Act: drive.proton.me/urls/7FGQYQ0… - Contact your Member of European Parliament about your opposition to the Kids Act, and why they should also be opposed to it: europarl.europa.eu/meps/en/h… - Spread the word and this video far and wide! Let the public know what is happening!

The end of software secrecy is almost upon us. The death of closed source, and the final triumph of open source. I should have realized this a few months ago when I successfully decompiled the game of Firefighter from an ancient DOS shareware binary. My robot friend was able to tell it had been written in Borland Pascal from looking at the data layout; it gave me back very readable Pascal code with sensibly chosen function and variable names. I transpiled it to Rust and now ship it as part of my heritage games collection. The thing is, I thought of this as a fun stunt but didn't have any confidence that the technique would scale up to large, real programs. I have since learned that people are now doing this sort of thing with entire AAA games, which are among the most complex software artifacts ever to be shipped as a binary. If they can be decompiled, anything can be. This has implications. Massive implications. We need to think about what the world is like when, in general, there is no longer a secrecy moat around almost any software at all. 1/2

Much like how we had a feedback campaign for the Digital Fairness Act, there is now a place for you to give feedback on the EU Kids Act: ec.europa.eu/info/law/better… - Be polite - Write in your own words and using your own experiences - Emphasize how video games shouldn't have draconian age verification, private servers without age verification shouldn't be made illegal, etc.

All hands on deck! This is the biggest threat to Stop Killing Games yet! The EU #KidsAct could end #StopKillingGames by collapsing the EU gaming market and making private and community servers illegal!: youtu.be/mQRcK9nYg9g "The best thing you can do is spread the word...The people who write this crap do not like it when the public at large knows what they're trying to do to you" - @accursedfarms Don't just take our word for it, here's the EU Kids Act to see for yourself. Ross also has more links in the description of his video: eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-cont… eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-cont…

I’ll explain the new Pro 200 plan differently, before I start live tweeting from DevDay on things that are going out! Today we are going to ship a number of things that increase what you can do across the Plus and Pro plans. A lot of compute is online for this increase. As we increase the floor, we are changing the relative difference between plans to be Plus = 1X Pro 100 = 5X Pro 200 = 10X and we are reopening subscriptions for Pro 200 (we had paused it). If you have an existing plan you will keep the 20X multiplier for a bit and also receive a lot of additional credits because we know changes are hard even if it means that everyone will get more in the end.

Some data we recently assembled on entrepreneurship/compute in Europe: eudata.vercel.app. We hope that one of the useful roles that Stripe can play is in collecting and publishing empirical data pertaining to entrepreneurship and industry in Europe. There's growing appetite to get Europe on a better footing, and cross-sectional comparisons can often shine light on where opportunities lie. If you're interested in this kind of thing, we publish more at stripeeconomics.substack.com.

Look at this retail players. Some simple concepts that you guys cannot seem to grasp. Try reading it 10 time and maybe this time it will stick.
I'm seeing a lot of discourse about who WoW Forever is being made for and while I cannot speak for anyone else on the team I can speak for myself. I am making WoW forever for the classic gamer and for the millions of people who have had their accounts lapse over the years because they were not satisfied with changes that were made to the game. Whether those changes were to the art style, the story, social aspects, game design, or changes to their favorite class. I did not spend the last year of my life relearning and mastering how to do things like we did it 20+ years ago for retail players. I could have taken it easy and just kept doing things like I had done for the past 8 years on retail...because I was much more familiar with it and it actually takes a lot less time to do (height maps on textures do a ton of heavy lifting). Because the reality is that the majority of retail players wouldn't care and would probably actually prefer it. But I felt I had a duty to uphold an artistic vision and integrity that millions of people expect from us. But not just for our players, but for my co-workers past and present who worked on it over 20 years ago. If I could not create something that resembled their work then I failed not only them...but myself. Please do not take this as me throwing any shade at retail players or the retail team because I am one myself...but I wanted to make Forever as authentic of a Vanilla experience as possible. This involves making decisions wildly different than retail. It means holding the line against changes that create a domino affect down the road. It means keeping friction and inconveniences in the game. It means finding friends and forming groups with strangers and being social!! Because WoWs social aspects have always been the pillar of the game and over the years it has slowly been chiseled away at with changes that allow you play alone. Since the day I started working on the Riverglades I have lived by three sayings. "Convenience is the death of the journey." "If you're making a game for everyone then you're making it for no one." "Every change we make incurs a debt to the authenticity of the game and sooner or later that debt will be paid." These are my core beliefs and I had a specific group of people I was targeting with my work. These beliefs cannot be shaken and I will try to hold the line against anything that goes against them and will continue to pester the team about things that feel out of place. That being said, my hope is that Forever will pull in as many people as possible, whether you are a retail gamer, a classic gamer, someone who hasn't played in years, or even a new player. I hope you can all remember what made this game so special in the first place and that starts with understanding why we are so passionate about keeping it authentic.

I am done with this shit. It is over. The state of engineering right now is horrible. It has been half a month since I started a new role at a big company. Nobody knows anything here. The specs, code, tests, PRDs, tickets, resolution of those tickets, reports, etc., everything is made by Claude Code. Nobody on my team likes this. They are being forced to ship as much as they can. I have heard multiple times from higher management that pushing code is not a bottleneck, so why are we slow? People are working 12 to 13 hours a day just to press enter. Nobody is reading anything. Humans in corporate are doing nothing on their own. Everyone, literally everyone, from an L1 to an L7 engineer here is doing the same thing. Talk to Claude. There is no sense of victory. Nobody is resolving bugs. In reality, nobody is thinking anymore. Everything is done by LLMs. It is so soul-sucking. I would not mind it, to be honest, if we were at least given the time to check out the code and see what is going where. But no, the goal is to just ship. No matter what happens.
