Dr @LaversTom (GDI) presented his much-anticipated book, “Ethiopia’s ‘Developmental State’: Political Order and Distributive Crisis”, at the #SOAS Development Studies seminar. Ethiopia is a standout example of state-led development in Africa. Dr Lavers’ work provides a comprehensive, multi-sectoral analysis of Ethiopia's development initiatives, charting the rise and fall of its ‘developmental state’, while exploring how regimes sustain power over long periods in the pursuit of economic transformation. 🎥 Watch it now: youtube.com/watch?v=aQJQnoGe… #DevelopmentStudies #Ethiopia #StateLedDevelopment #EconomicTransformation @ASAUK_News @SOASpolitics

BYD's manufacturing operations are highly automated, yet they create thousands of jobs. This is in line with evidence elsewhere too. I know it sounds paradoxical, but automation tends to have a net positive effect on job creation.
BYD Thailand plant: 10,000 jobs BYD Mexico plant: expected 10,000 jobs BYD Turkey plant: expected 5,000 direct jobs BYD Hungary plant: thousands of workers BYD Brazil plants: expected 5,000 jobs BYD’s EV factories are highly automated. Yet they seem to create thousands of jobs.

Didn't like the way this @JDVance1 bloke (newly picked as #Trump's running mate) slagged off the UK lately. Looked into him. Not great. Made a parody song inspired by @ABBA called "Vance VP" 🎶 Shout out #americast (@BBCsarahsmith/@awzurcher) & @RestIsPolitics for ℹ️ profiles 👍
