These statistics show just how important it is for any welfare reform strategy to get more money into people’s pockets, as part of a wider programme to help people afford and access the food they need without resorting to emergency food parcels.

ALT An infographic titled "Family Resources Survey Results" with the Feeding Britain logo in the top right corner. Text notes that the data is from the Department for Work and Pensions. The graphic highlights that the percentage of households using a food bank within the past 30 days increased slightly from 1.4% in 2022–2023 to 1.5% in 2023–2024. It also states that food bank usage within the past 12 months increased from 3.3% of households in 2022–2023 to 3.6% in 2023–2024. The background is light green with curved patterns.

To tackle food insecurity, we need a three-pronged approach to creating safety nets that keep people out of poverty and provide sustainable solutions. We need:
- A Social Safety Net
- A Nutritional Safety Net
- A Local Safety Net

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Campaign win! Today, the Government announced a significant easing in the rate of monthly deductions from Universal Credit.
This will help keep more money in the pockets of people who are at risk of hunger, and address directly one of the main drivers of food insecurity.
