I can’t decide if people who assert that contemporary AIs can think or are conscious do so out of fear or out of envy.
But I can say that any such people do so either out of emotion or perhaps driven by some pecuniary interest in it being true, not from any fully informed or defensible position.

I think we should put the smartest “AI safety expert” in prison for 30 days with a laptop and $1M of OpenAI credits and see if they can escape.
Model collapse is the degradation of generative models trained recursively on their own outputs. Diversity fades, tails of the data distribution disappear, and errors compound into repetitive low-quality results.
Current technology cannot support true recursive self-improvement because self-generated data triggers collapse. Models lack true introspection, durable memory, and the ability to invent grounded new architectures or training signals without human data and feedback. Loops saturate rather than accelerate unboundedly.

Care to describe at a granular level and step by step the most plausible scenario for ai killing us? Then we will look at your steps and see if your prediction makes sense. Poke some holes here and there.. i am seriously fed up with people throwing around verbose statements about this while not explaining the plausible “physics” of it

He's absolutely right about this one, unless you want China running your life. Anyone opposing data centers is woefully wrong and the AI hysteria is just that.

Dario has written that we need to “pace the frontier,” and Sam has agreed. People may be surprised by my response: go ahead.
You guys are the frontier. By any reasonable metric — market share, revenue growth, model capability — the two of you have a duopoly on frontier intelligence. You’ve also claimed the lead is widening because of recursive self-improvement.
I don’t see what you see in the lab. If the unreleased models are scary enough that you think you should slow down, I support your decision to be responsible.
But stop pretending you need anyone else’s permission. Stop pretending antitrust law has to be suspended so you can form a cartel. Stop pretending you need a regulatory approval process that supersedes product liability. Stop pretending METR is independent when it is intertwined with Anthropic’s investors and staff. Stop pretending you need those same evaluators to police competitors who aren’t even at the frontier.
Most of all, stop pretending the motivation to slow down is purely altruistic. You face massive product-liability exposure if your products enable a truly damaging cyberattack. The market already punishes models that behave in unpredictable or unauthorized ways. After the Hugging Face episode, it is simply good business for OpenAI and Anthropic to trade some raw power for reliability and predictability. Call it alignment if you want. It is also just giving customers what they want.
Pacing the frontier would also create breathing room for a more intelligent conversation about regulation than Bernie Sanders’ “shut it all down.” China is very unlikely to join a global agreement, as you know, and that has to be taken into account as well.
So go ahead and pace the frontier. You are the ones setting it. The easiest way not to build superintelligence is for you to agree not to build it. Demanding your preferred regulatory framework as the price of that will look like blackmail of the public and the political system. So just do it.
If you do, you’ll buy goodwill for the next conversation. If you don’t, we’ll know this was just another bid for regulatory capture — or an election-season psyop.

Tinfoil hat on.
What if we are hitting limits and the best way to cover this up is to use safety and slowing down as the driver.
We Must Pace the Frontier: I’ve written a new essay on why the AI industry should slow down, with a three-part plan for doing so.
Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first of these steps. We’ll provide third-party evaluators with permanent, employee-level access to our systems, so that they can verify adherence to our safety measures, report on incidents, and assess models’ alignment during training.

AI can barely make a spreadsheet that functions and I'm supposed to be worried that it's going to *checks notes* kill all of humanity within a decade? I think the nerds have been sniffing their own farts a little too much

Some high school kids were talking and said “No way Gen X wrote 10-page papers without AI.”
Oh, honey.
We wrote them without reading the book…the night before they were due…by hand and in cursive.
We are not the same.

I’m a little confused by the comments in this thread.
The guy in the video is @DavidMoss. He’s a Tesla supporter who made this video to highlight (celebrate) how incredible Cybercab is with response time, on FSD V15.
And this is HIS Cybercab pulling up to pick HIM up.
David has done these exact same tests, albeit self-admittedly unscientific, in numerous videos with every version of FSD since he came onto the Tesla scene a few years ago.
There’s no harm being done here. No one was inconvenienced. And David is not looking to hurt Tesla. Quite the contrary.

🚨🇺🇸 CAR@LHO, QUE LAPADA! 🔥🔥🔥
CNN: “Este é um imigrante sem documentos...”
Miller: “Eles estavam aqui ILEGALMENTE?”
CNN: “Stephen, estamos tentando humanizar o debate...”
Miller: “Humanizar?
A CNN topa?”

Been using Fable for some perfectly reasonable, non-biology, physics work. It has been doing amazing work so far for me.
I'm a professor of Pathology at Stanford... working in cancer biology. Not developing megawatt laser weapons, not hacking quantum computer encryption, not doing anything nefarious except working on techniques for measuring things at the atomic level. My eventual bio-goal is the 3D dynamic code of DNA and how it relates to immune-cancer outcomes.
Suddenly, Fable decides to hit a safety guardrail when it's almost finished (after 6 hours of work), after spending $100s of my credits. It terminates and forces me to hand over to Opus 4.8 or Sol. It doesn't even tell me "why" it hit a safety guard, so you could potentially protest or alter queries in the future.
So now I am left wondering how "dumbed down" the result will be?
And Anthropic wonders why their reputation continues to be sullied.
Anthropic-- I want my credits back! @anthropicAI

Again for those in the back, Elon once offered to cut a check for $6 BILLION to the WFB to "eliminate World hunger" as they said the money could. His one condition was that the accounting was public.
They did not accept.
Elon Musk dismantled USAID programs that provided lifesaving assistance to millions of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people. The human cost was enormous, while DOGE’s net fiscal impact was inconsequential.
Now, as Musk approaches trillionaire status, he should commit/tithe at least $100 billion to a fund dedicated to combating extreme poverty, hunger, preventable disease, and humanitarian crises worldwide.
Money alone cannot undo the damage already done. But if this moment marks an unprecedented personal financial milestone, it should also be an opportunity for an unprecedented act of restitution. Musk has the resources to save and improve countless lives. He should use them.

Is not this what MOSQUES are for? Is this intentional? Mayor Mamdani @NYCMayor any words of wisdom on why all of a sudden they’d feel compelled to do this?
