Jon Snow thought the Wall was huge? Here's how high the ice sheets that covered North America 26,000 years ago compared! Maybe ice sheets this high could have stopped the white walkers... (created by @angelshale and inspired by xkcd.com/1225/) #GameOfThrones

@intrepidmuseum’s #kidsweek was a great success and we are so happy that we got to be a part of it!! We even got to debut our brand-new sediment core puzzle! There’s nothing better than getting kids excited about #STEM at a young age 🐚#climatechange #coreaday #science #scicomm – at Manhattan, NY
Today we are remembering Wally Broecker, the Grandfather of Climate Science. He was an avid ocean-faring researcher and superuser of the Core Repository. His memory, research, and books will live on for generations. Check out this 1998 @nytimes article: nytimes.com/1998/03/17/scien…

We ❤️ our sediment cores! Here’s a festive core taken in 1961 on the R/V Vema from the Cabot Strait, just south of Newfoundland. According to the shipboard description, this is pinkish gray quartzose sand interbedded with lutite. #coreaday
