King wasn't writing a girl-power PSA about the heavy burden of vengeance; he was writing the ugly psychological truth of what happens when a lifetime of humiliation suddenly gets handed godlike power. Abuse doesn't purify someone’s soul, it rots it. Stripping away #Carrie’s malicious satisfaction just to keep her palatable for an audience completely misses King’s point: pain doesn't make you holy, and Carrie embraced the cruelty because cruelty was the only language she was ever taught.
