A functional seizure is still a seizure. Seizures in Epilepsy involve abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Seizures in #FND involve changes in how brain networks function together. Different mechanisms. Same reality. Both are real seizures.

Scamvougeras and Castle express the view that FND should be framed ONLY in psychiatric terms in a new article @CogNPsychiatry zurl.co/pSx1u My reply explains why I think this historical - and dualistic - approach is wrong: zurl.co/OAcPN

I can’t believe my daughter has fractured a rib from a functional seizure. Now for more memory loss episodes and heightened pain leading to more functional seizures. #FNDaware

FNDS conference is in full force. FND and women: surprisingly little research focus, despite the high prevalence.

While in Washington, DC for @FNDSociety conference 2026, I had the chance to meet Amir Gandjbakhche, a global leader in fNIRS research. Amir kindly agreed to be hypnotised — and, because no good neuroscience opportunity should go unmeasured, we collected fNIRS data during #hypnosis. 🧠✨ Thanks to his fellow and students for the quick set up. My quest continues: developing objective tools to measure and monitor #hypnosis in real time. The goal is simple: reduce stigma, build clinical confidence, and help hypnosis move further into mainstream healthcare and especially for #FND Science, curiosity, and a little trance work in the DC. @EdinPublishing @NIRSlearn @BSCAH1 @Sec_BSCH @RoySocMed @WilliamMcGeown @TranceformM
