Exciting work from my group! Visit us #CogSci26 - this work show something exciting about human AI collaboration- sometimes it is good for humans and AI to be misaligned!! More on the poster …
🤖🗣️ Will a hybrid society of humans and AI be more creative than either alone? What happens when their cognitive strategies are misaligned, and does that make the collective more intelligent, or does it break down? 🧠 Check out our paper #CogSci26 1/

If you are at #CogSci2024 come to @Eline__VG presenting joint work with @norijacoby using Gibbs Sampling with People to understand visual aesthetics. 10:30 - 12:00 in Perception 3 session.
Excited to attend my first @cogsci_soc this week! If you are into perception, aesthetics, individual differences, context effects, Bayesian, open source programming, and more find me at #CogSci2024! On Saturday (Perception3) I present work I did with @norijacoby at the @MPI_ae ⬇️

Get into the groove!🎶😉 Study of people in 15 countries suggests the human #brain has a universal tendency to lean towards simple rhythms, but that biases can vary widely across different cultures🎶shorturl.at/nrEP5 @MIT @MPI_ae @CompAudition @norijacoby @JoshHMcDermott

Here are some of my thoughts on why @norijacoby et al.'s paper is so important and impressive (from this preprint from my forthcoming book: osf.io/preprints/psyarxiv/b3…)
We are excited that our paper “Commonality and variation in mental representations of music revealed by a cross-cultural comparison of rhythm priors in 15 countries.” is finally published in Nature Human Behaviour. rdcu.be/dAgFV. @JoshHMcDermott @CompAudition

👏 Congrats to this fantastic collab-work with 34 co-authors, incl. @norijacoby, @JoshHMcDermott, and many more. The team researched #musicalperception by examining preferred #beat patterns across various nations and #cultural backgrounds. Out now in @NatureHumBehav!

Four years in the making, my main PhD work is in Nature Human Behaviour! Decades of work has shown both benefits and costs to group decision-making. Can we restructure social networking algorithms so there are fewer costs and more benefits? Paper: rdcu.be/dquI1 1/10

On 8/28 (Mon) at #icmpc17, @TweetHarin will be talking about our new work on the global network of cultural diffusion observed through large-scale music discovery behaviors. This will also be a showcase of one of our ambitious data efforts. If you're around, come to the talk!

The brilliant Rainer Polak is recruiting a postdoc for the DjembeDance (tinyurl.com/4b2drknp) project at RITMO. This is a great opportunity to work on the computational analysis of Malian music and dance (video, audio and motion capture)! tinyurl.com/4h4ue5s5

Last year, we analyzed melodic evolution in a corpus of songs (doi.org/10.1016/j.cub.2022.0…), and suggested that cultural transmission experiments might clarify evolutionary mechanisms. Today, @AngladaTort et al. do exactly that in the same journal. So cool!
We are excited to share our work, “Large-scale iterated singing experiments reveal oral transmission mechanisms underlying music evolution”, published today in @CurrentBiology. @AngladaTort @pmcharrison @TweetHarin @norijacoby @MPI_ae @UniofOxford 1/n cell.com/current-biology/ful…

Really cool paper on music evolution with fantastic open materials. All data and code are neatly organized and online at OSF (osf.io/uangd/). The convergent melodies in the raw data are really cool and hauntingly familiar. Here's one of my favorites:

I am thrilled to share a recent paper from our group, spearheaded by @AngladaTort with @pmcharrison @TweetHarin. We ran large-scale online iterated learning singing experiments and demonstrated how oral transmission shapes melodic structure. authors.elsevier.com/sd/arti…
