Business office process changes every couple months; a core skill for your team is how they can ‘unlearn’ what they now do for new AI tools and processes. Companies needs to now think and operate like a startup lab to retool their processes with AI - @Rickard at meetup in WI USA
As I watch this, I think the graphic and title of the video does not match what they say. They make a good case that there is an #African talent problem; actively trying to fill that gap with their training programs and internal upskilling.

Must-watch for anyone interested in Rwanda’s technology and innovation ecosystem.
The Voices Podcast with Arafat, in partnership with Rwanda Build Program and Guhemba (@RwandaBuild @guhemb), explores a critical question facing Kigali and Africa’s rapidly growing tech ecosystem:
How do we turn young, ambitious talent into experienced professionals capable of building, scaling, and leading the next generation of African companies?
Beyond coding and technical skills, what does it take to build real-world experience, create opportunities, develop strong teams, and turn potential into companies that can compete globally?
This is a conversation about talent, mentorship, opportunity, entrepreneurship, and the future of Africa’s technology ecosystem.

Money moves at the speed of trust. When one commits many more follow. Keep going
I got an insanely early morning text from one of my portfolio founders that they finally got a lead for their pre-seed round, and now they're oversubscribing and doing a second tranche.
I'm of the mindset, and maybe it's an abundance mindset, that there is always capital out there for you.
It's just finding the right partner, and finding the right partners is the hard thing to do.
There's huge shoe leather cost to fundraising, especially if you're in a non-consensus category, but if you don't quit, you can make it happen, and big things can happen from there.
Apple (AAPL), Nvidia (NVDA) have become the key forces moving the stock market. I’ve never seen such concentration in just two stocks. They account for more than 15% of the index, and exceeds the 9.1% level held by Microsoft (MSFT), General Electric (GE) before the dot-com bust.
Yes, AI bot & agents detection!
Many see agents automatically communicating as a huge problem. Startups should be taking this on as a service. Not just to stop, but to know when to maximize agent to agent connections.
Bot detection & human verification will be one of the most urgent demands for businesses over the coming years. Agent swarms will suffocate every website and form; small companies and government websites are most vulnerable.
There is a huge gap in the market for this right now. When we looked at what offerings were in the market to use at X, there was not a single company that brought together all the latest technologies so we had to do it all in-house.

I'm convinced successful people are just willing to look stupid for years longer than anyone else to get what they want.

At the sidelines of #UNGA81, Minister @MusoniPaula joined the World Economic Forum’s Centre for AI Excellence to discuss AI sovereignty, infrastructure and Africa’s digital transformation.
She highlighted Rwanda’s experience and the need to move beyond individual AI pilots towards scalable solutions, with African countries collaborating on data, compute, energy, skills and interoperable frameworks while retaining agency over AI deployment.
She emphasized skills as a core pillar of AI sovereignty, enabling Africa to develop and deploy AI solutions that respond to local priorities and ensure its benefits reach citizens.
Fundraising in 2026 “easy” 💀🙈🙉🙊😜
You just need to:
make a deck and be great at pitching
be a likable generational founder
be aggressive with a massive vision
have a safe runway plan with low risk
have a lot of revenue & traction
don’t let the company die during the process
As China is Rwanda’s biggest trading partner, Bank of Kigali has become the first bank headquartered in East or Central Africa to join China’s CIPS as a direct participant - settle some China-related payments in yuan without as many correspondent-bank hops.

A major milestone for Bank of Kigali and Rwanda’s financial sector. 🇷🇼🇨🇳
Bank of Kigali has become the first bank in Rwanda and the first bank headquartered in East and Central Africa to join China’s Cross-Border Interbank Payment System (CIPS) as a direct participant.
This milestone strengthens the financial connection between Rwanda and China, enabling faster and more direct cross-border payments in China’s currency.(RMB)
The CIPS Direct Participation Agreement was signed in Xiamen, China, on September 8 during the 2nd CIPS Cross-Border Bank-Enterprise Cooperation Event.
A significant step forward in making international payments simpler, faster and more connected.

OUCH!
Kenya is proposing new capital requirements of up to KES 250 million ($1.93 million)! "Could make it" I think it will make it impossible for startups to kick off. But it would protect government projects and established services.

If you are wondering why Google is no longer in the AI race - little things, like Gemini in Gmail not being able to export an email thread to a file in Google Drive. 🙈🤯☠️
That, and Google search AI summaries are garbage and more useless than results from 5 years ago. #downgrade
We are lowering our standards just so we can graduate more people - at universities graduates struggle at basic math and critical thinkng.
If we want to excel and be great, we should to set the bar high; students need to rise up, become greater with more knowledge and ability.

More checks earlier is what we need and VCs do the exact opposite now

While SAFEs address early-stage valuation uncertainty, they still require full capital deployment upfront. By adapting derivatives from capital markets, Paid Call Options & Abandonment Swaps, the ecosystem can establish a flexible third asset class.

another "down round acquisition" where the late stage guys got 1x and the early guys got 100x.
Invest early my friends.
Bending Spoons acquires Miro for ~$1.79b. But who gets the 💰? My usual breakdown below 👇
*This is 89.8% below the last round, and <3x EV/ARR* 📉
Yet, investors are making $370m of profits on a company that was once valued at $17.5b! Not a glorious outcome but a 1.78x blended multiple on $473m invested. 👀
There are mainly three parties doing well here: (1) founders & team, (2) @altairvc, and (3) @Accel.
Most of the capital came in at the top, and the preference sheltered investors nicely from a 90% haircut... Not a great return after 5 years of equity cost of capital, but "better 1.0x than 0.1x".
So let's dive in:
*1) Founders, Team and Common shareholders will be sharing nearly $1b* 🥳
While I am sure they expected much better in 2021 at the height of the bubble, this is an acceptable outcome.
Miro can thank its frugality for this outcome: (1) the acquisition press release implies it still has $435m on balance sheet at closing, and (2) the company only ever raised $473m!
The cash added back to the $1.355b enterprise value effectively paid by Bending Spoons really helps (<3x ARR), and only the Series C claims pref.
*2) Accel is getting the most $ back, but not without regrets* 🫠
They are making c.9x from the Series A.
But they will have mixed feelings today, and will regret following on in the Series B and C which will return ~1.9x and 1.0x respectively. Both of which are obviously not great for six and five years of equity risk, respectively.
*3) AltaIR likely still returns >100x ‼️*: investing at pre-seed can pay off, even when growth investors do not make money.
*4) Disappointing outcome for growth investors. But the pref worked as intended.* 😮💨
The acquisition is a 90% haircut to the Series C price of $17.5b. However, the Series C investors will still make 1.0x back thanks to liq pref.
ICONIQ, Salesforce, Atlassian, Dragoneer, TCV, DST and @codorniou can all thank this mechanism, without which there would have been a few very awkward LP calls!
New App Store listings are up 30 percent last year, while downloads rose only about 3 percent. The first half of 2026 looks even more extreme.
New apps doubled while downloads barely moved. Just because it’s easy to build, does not mean it’s useful and impactful to use.
