YIKES: The latest NBM (National Blend of Models) drives the heat index to a whopping 107° in Rochester and 112° in Sodus Tuesday afternoon. That's unbelievable. And I mean that quite literally. I don't believe it. The NBM has been biased hot all summer. At face value, numbers like that would justify Extreme Heat Warnings tomorrow. Fortunately, I think it's overkill. Don't get me wrong, it'll be toasty tomorrow with highs in the ballpark of 90° to the lower 90s. Factoring in humidity, that will spike heat index values well into the 90s to perhaps around 100° in spots. Shown below, the first image is the NBM forecast followed by our in-house model with I deem much more reasonable. Fairly typical summertime heat with enough bite to take it easy and listen to your body if spending significant time outdoors Tuesday. Plan accordingly!

WHOA! In Rochester, New York, this is quite remarkable. There have been several 5-minute observations at the Airport clocking a dew point of 79°. This is toward the top of highest dew points ever recorded in Rochester & is currently one of the highest dew point readings at this hour in the entire United States. By the way, that has yielded a 105° heat index before noon. Wild stuff.

There's no sugar coating it. Mother Nature is set to be very unkind to us today. Rochester's dew point is 77° at this hour. That is a remarkably high number in this part of the world. Heat index values this afternoon, per the latest HRRR, will spike over 105° (and will likely do it again tomorrow). While we've all dealt with hot weather before, this is dangerous heat that needs to be taken seriously. Listen to your body and make smart decisions outdoors today, please.

BREAKING: The Rochester area has been upgraded to an Extreme Heat Warning for Wednesday-Friday.
