You can bicker as much as you like about specific words, but in the end any material change (not just feel-good slogans) delivered by politicians will be due to those demanding and organizing for it, not those demanding that those organizing for it shut up. There’s never a downside to demanding more from politicians, especially when they and/or their supporters want you to be grateful and quiet.

Your definition of Zionism does not matter. Nor does mine. Zionism is defined by its material manifestations. The purpose of a system is what it does. And the Zionist system does racism and genocide. Simple. Please spare me the arrogant insufferable graaating Oxbridge debates. Your opinions are irrelevant. People are dying.

This is a non-answer. Mamdani cannot arrest Netanyahu (The United States is not a party to the Rome Statute, foreign affairs are a federal matter, etc.) Moreover, as a sitting prime minister, Netanyahu has a strong claim to immunity ratione personae before U.S. courts.
If Mamdani wants to take tangible action within the bounds of his office, he could easily urge Attorney General and other relevant authorities to go after New York-registered tax-exempt organizations that funnel tens of millions of US dollars into Israeli settler expansion and violence every year (not niche, irrelevant orgs like Betar that are discredited by even the ADL, but consequential organizations like the Smotrich-founded Regavim, or the Israel Land Fund). Why won't he do that?
WATCH: NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he is in "an active conversation" with the city's Law Department about whether he has the authority to order the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visits New York for the U.N. General Assembly.
"I believe that Prime Minister Netanyahu belongs in The Hague," Mamdani said, calling him "a war criminal who has been charged by the International Criminal Court."
He added, "Whatever the law allows me to do in New York City, that's what we will do, but we won't be writing our own laws to that end."

Our analysis of Andy Burnham's statement:
Burnham didn't use the term genocide and instead said it was a matter for the "international courts... rather than politicians" to establish accountability. This is the same as the Starmer government and is in defiance of most of the world's human rights organisations who are referring to Israel's "genocide".
He said war crimes only "appear" to have been committed despite documentation by human rights groups and the UN, and the reason for the ICC's arrest warrant for Netanyahu.
He said the UK should be "looking" at "further sanctions... on those involved in the violence in Gaza" but did not make the obvious call for sanctions on Netanyahu who is wanted by the ICC.
Burnham said the UK should only be "looking" at a ban on trade in goods with Israel's illegal settlements (which is now the Starmer government's position), instead of explicitly calling for this now.
He did not call to end all arms exports to Israel, nor for an end to UK military cooperation such as withdrawing the 2020 military accord or ending all military training programmes.
We note his specific words. His statement was that (a) "many people feel" (only) that (b) at the "start" (only) of (c) "Israel's military action in Gaza" (not genocide) the Labour government "didn't get it right", but only apparently because Labour "was too slow to call for a ceasefire" (Yet the issue is not only that, it is that Labour has been supporting Israel through military, intelligence, trade and diplomatic support during the genocide).

If you were to attend one funeral per day, for every child killed in Gaza, it would take over 52 years.
Andy Burnham believes Israel “MAY” have committed war crimes.

A new Palestinian Feminist Collective report concludes that sexualized violence, including rape and sexual enslavement, has been used by Zionist militias and later the Israeli state as a deliberate tool of displacement, domination, torture, and control—from the Nakba to the present. The report demonstrates that the sexual humiliation, torture, rape, blackmail, and targeting of Palestinians since October 2023 are not aberrations but the continuation of a longstanding, institutionalized architecture of settler colonial violence.

What Israel is doing in Lebanon is unambiguously genocidal against Shias. And it is unambiguously an attempt to reoccupy and even annex a huge part of the country. It’s infuriating that we’re pretending that there’s a ceasefire. And even more infuriating that Western media continues to turn a blind eye to Israel’s endless colonial expansion and insatiable hunger for Arab land.

Mr. @nmladenov,
I am Asem Alnabih, Gaza correspondent for @AlarabyTV. I have been trying hard to reach you but unfortunately haven’t succeeded.
I kindly request a statement or comment from you in your capacity as representative of the Peace Council regarding Netanyahu’s remarks, in which he said he had given orders to seize 70% of the Gaza Strip’s and further reduce the already very narrow area in which nearly two million people live.
Thank you!

after Ben Gvir assaulted that woman, he said, I'm told, "welcome to hell. the summer camp is over."
Now Gideon Sa'ar, Israel's Foreign Minister, is upset because it was televised. He's not worried about the harm done to European civilians, but harm to Israel's image.
You see? These people are parasitic demons. The lot of them.
This is what they do to westerners. Imagine what they're doing to Palestinians behind closed doors.

Ridiculous- Creating loopholes to bypass sanctions. The point of sanctions, including cultural, is to create conditions that lead Israelis to pressure their governments and leaders. God forbid the 10 anti-Zionist Israelis standing are slightly inconvenienced!

Late last night the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force informed me that a plot against my life that was "about to" take place, and that agents had conducted an operation in Hoboken related to this plot. For months, Zionist organizations like Betar and politicians like Randy Fine have encouraged violence against my family and me. I will have more to say as additional details come to light. I will not stop speaking up for the people of Palestine. Thank you for your support.

The Paraguay Scheme: Israel’s secret plan to deport Gazans in the ‘70s
A new podcast series lifts the veil on the Mossad’s failed effort to expel 60,000 Palestinians soon after occupying Gaza. 60 years on, Israel's methods remain eerily similar. @bentreyf

BTW I began working as a correspondent five months ago. Since then, I have been trying to obtain a press vest and helmet, but have been unable to find either, despite Gaza being one of the most dangerous places in the world for journalists.
I call the international and media institutions to press for the entry of essential safety equipment into Gaza, at the very least if they are unable to secure access for foreign journalists.
The beautiful new red @AlarabyTV logo has reached all correspondents across the world, except for four: those of us in Gaza. Here, we still carry the old, worn logo, weathered and surviving—much like we are—through the ongoing genocide.
It is also a reminder that the Israel severely restricts the entry of essential journalistic equipment, including basic safety gear, making it even harder for us to report and convey the truth on the ground.
