On behalf of AMO, I extend my deepest condolences to Mac Bain’s family, friends and colleagues. Mac dedicated decades of his life to municipal government, serving the City of North Bay and advocating for municipalities across Northern Ontario and the province. Through his leadership at FONOM and his work with AMO, Mac was a solid voice for municipal interests and the communities they serve. He will be remembered for his dedication to public service and his lasting contributions to municipal government in Ontario.

Solving Ontario’s mental health, addictions & homelessness crisis requires a balance between compassion and accountability. We’re asking the Government of Ontario to introduce essential policy solutions:
✔️ Expand timely access to recovery and treatment programs
✔️ Create a dedicated ministry with appropriate funding
✔️ Conduct a review of the Mental Health Act and the Healthcare Consent Act
✔️ Expand addiction treatment and rehabilitation programming within correctional institutions

First Nations, Inuit and Métis People live in almost every municipality across Ontario, with around 85.5% of Indigenous people in Ontario living within municipalities.
On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we at AMO affirm our commitment to fostering stronger, more meaningful municipal-Indigenous relationships.
Municipalities have a responsibility to protect the rights of Indigenous Peoples and take steps to redress the socio-economic impacts of colonization by meaningfully advancing reconciliation.
Together, we can help build stronger relationships and a bright future for Indigenous Peoples across Ontario.
