My feature about Olympique de Marseille is up @thenation. It's a story about popular culture, immigration, a unique city and the power supporters have when they organize. Feat. @MedericGC, François Thomazeau, @MarinePattyn and many others thenation.com/article/world/…
From earlier in the day in Marseille. A lot of talk about the violence but there was also a massive peaceful march, with high school students, families, trade unionists, Yellow Vests, people fed up with a government that will not make concessions to a popular movement.

Many on the left suspected this was the case, but it’s still wild to see the WSJ confirm it.
Needless to say, stripping the citizenship of opposition elected officials is really, really far down the road to fascism.
New: The federal investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar aims to build a case to strip her of her U.S. citizenship and ultimately deport her, according to U.S. officials and others familiar with the probe wsj.com/politics/policy/ilha… via @McCormickJohn @MHackman @sgurman
Stunning numbers from France: at least 7950 people have been detained by the police during the student protest movement, 86% of whom are under age 18. That's more than the total number detained during the Yellow Vests protests between Nov 18-Sep 19. rfi.fr/fr/en-bref/20261014-f…

1-Yes it is a good analysis. Presidential elections in 2017 and 2022. Legislative elections in 2017, 2022, 2024.
2-Who the hell are you to make sweeping assumptions about who I am? You don't know me

That's not a good historical analysis of "the left" in the elections. There was really no "left" for two decades, and Melenchon revived it after it was killed by the Hollande PS. Also, he's an excellent campaigner, not just speaker, and you are not his natural constituency. ;)

Mélenchon is a phenomenal speaker. But when it comes to actually winning and expanding the left's share of the vote in national elections, the record isn't so good. He's 0-3 and the left has been stuck around 30% of the vote since 2017.
French Presidential Candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon:
They tell us, "We must reassure the markets." Reassure the markets? What are their names? Where do they live? Let me go and reassure them!
What market? What are you talking about? There is no market. There are hedge funds, financial companies and insurance companies.

"And that’s what’s been interesting when you’re talking to people on the streets here, is to see to what extent the high school student issues actually resonate beyond just high schools. Right? It’s university students. It’s also trade unions."

@ColeStangler Cole Stangler's interview with the TİP chairperson—covering political repression in Türkiye, the Kurdish issue, the Palestinian issue, and the socialist movement in Turkey and globally—has been published.
I spoke with @erkbas, leader of the Workers' Party of Turkey and MP in Istanbul. He told me about the party’s deep socialist roots and more recent influence of the Gezi protests. From Ep 7 of WHAT DO WE WANT coming soon!
