Not sure which Jews the @chiefrabbi is talking about. For many British Jews who believe in ‘Never Again’ to finally see the government take action against the racist, brutal Israeli state is a source of long delayed joy. As Jews we welcome it & exhort the government to do more to stop the slaughter, including a full arms embargo & the diplomatic & economic isolation of Israel
This is truly a dark day for British Jews. Today our Government has chosen to ignore the deep concerns expressed by so many of us. The measures announced amount to little more than political flag bearing for mendacious anti-Israel rhetoric and those who harbour a dangerous obsession with the Jewish State. These measures will succeed only in bolstering the very extremism they seek to target. On the eve of Rosh Hashanah and at a time when our community is more vulnerable than ever to the wave of extremism that has been building over recent years, these sanctions do nothing to advance the cause of peace. Nor do they make anyone safer – quite the contrary. Gesture politics of this kind feeds into an increasingly hostile discourse about Israel, and the cumulative effect of such punitive policies is to further embolden those, at home and abroad, who use hatred as a weapon against Jews.

More than 100 French and British former diplomats have said Palestine is being erased in front of the world’s eyes and called for urgent action including trade and arms sales bans to press Israel to accept a Palestinian state.

Following Sadiq Khan's acknowledgement that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, the government can no longer evade its obligations under international law. It must act decisively to uphold its duty to prevent and oppose genocide, rather than remain complicit through inaction.

The public showcase of hostility and humiliation that Minister Ben Gvir directed at protestors participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla is unacceptable. The willingly abusive treatment that flotilla crews and protestors, among them many European citizens, were subject to goes against human dignity requirements. We call for the immediate and safe release of the members of the flotilla, in line with applicable international standards, while upholding their right to adequate consular assistance and basic human dignity. We hope this incident will be treated with the utmost responsibility and that this sort of humiliation will not be repeated.

Sky News just did an extended piece on the UK being the world's largest importer of jet fuel, with zero production capacity. They managed not to mention the closure 2 years ago of the Grangemouth oil refinery which produced jet fuel.

Starmer this morning: "Because I do know what it’s like to struggle and to strive... " But he doesn't. Why pretend? He's had a charmed life ever since he passed the 11+ to Reigate Grammar School, and learned the violin with Fatboy Slim. Why does he bang on like this? Grr.. 🤬🤬

There have been ~10 attacks on UK Synagogues in the last 12 months. There have been ~300 attacks on UK Mosques in the last 12 months. Why is the former a problem ... but the latter isn't?

If anyone on the left talked about Jews and Israel the way Melanie Phillips talks about Palestinians and Palestine, they would be investigated by the police for hate speech and would never see the inside of a television or radio studio ever again.

Imagine a person who is not at all racist or antisemitic. They are horrified & distraught at the massacres & abuses of Gazan civilians & our government’s support for the state perpetrating it. What, may I ask, are they supposed to do?

Dear @BBCNews Why is it important to state the religion of 2 of the 3 victims of the stabbing attack in Golders Green (Jewish) but not the religion of the 3rd victim of that attack (Muslim)? Are some lives more important than others...?

More Jews are marching on pro-Palestinian marches pro rata than any other community. Stop calling opposition to genocide hatred. Listen to the esteemed Rabbi Herschel Gluck, president of the Shomrin in North East London.

Reports 15 Labour MPs voted against the whip and 50 abstentions. Much higher than expected. Places Starmer directly in the danger zone regarding a formal leadership challenge (around 80 names needed).

A Labour MP texts: “Irony of voting shortly to carry over the Hillsborough Law which includes the duty of candour as its central piece, but then being asked to oppose a Privilege Inquiry [into Keir Starmer] is not lost on some…”
Probably not quite the support from his MPs that Starmer would have sought, in an ideal world. John McDonnell urges the PM to refer himself to the Privileges Committee to show he has “nothing to hide”

So Labour's position is now: 🔴 Gordon Brown: it's a 'Westminster game' 🔴 No 10: here's a letter from our own civil servant 🔴 Lucy Powell: any independent inquiry is 'politically motivated' Every response they give is designed to avoid one thing: independent scrutiny.

The rumour is that the delays to the government adhering to the Humble Address Motion to release the information on Mandelson’s appointment is due to Cabinet Ministers refusing to hand over their mobile phones for fear of the messages on them with Mandelson and the embarrassment it might cause them. So I asked the Minister if that was the case….

Cat Little and Antonia Romeo waited 3 weeks before telling the PM what he sacked Olly Robbins for not telling him 'at the first opportunity'. Why were they allowed to get away with 3 weeks of chin-stroking - until fessing up because the Guardian were about to break the story?

The Intelligence and Security Committee asked the Government for the documents relating to Mandelson's vetting on the 10th Feb. They have not received them. I told you, this is a National Security cover-up. Olly Robbins can only say so much, he knows there is more evidence.
