It will come as no surprise to most that we will need to postpone the event for a second time. The July date was, in hindsight, overly optimistic however this was the latest date the venue was willing to let us move to under our contractual terms at the time.

Don't jump on the bandwagon of your favourite framework after being bought by marketing and shiny websites. Learn the good and bad parts for an informed opinion and do not become too coupled to your framework of choice - half of devs fail in this. Be the other half that succeeds.

PSA: a lot of Ruby web apps have been hacked by the Russians. To find out if your site is infected, look for a config.ru file in the root directory of your app.
Can't believe they named the file that. Dead giveaway.

The thing about “done” is, your customers cast it to an integer, not a float.
0% == 0
90% == 0
100% == 1

Having tests for your app lowers your anxiety. Removing anxiety feels good & its calming. When your calm, you're happier and more productive.
Therefore tests actually make you a happier person.
Don't believe me? Go write a test for that feature that's buggy. You'll feel better.

And when a companies does take a chance, treat said junior well. As an employer, your job isn’t finished just by giving them a job. Treat them well, respect them and pay them fairly. As Branson says train them well enough to leave, but treat them well enough they don’t want to!

Don't listen to people who tell you your tools are bad. If you're happy with your tools and they're helping you build great stuff, that's all you need.

Developers frequently tell me that "my manager doesn't give me time to test".
Nope. Testing is not separate from development. It is *part* of it. Saying there's no time for testing is like saying there's no time for debugging.
Write tests. Increase your confidence in your code.
