Vitalik: Ethereum quietly solved a big scaling problem Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin says PeerDAS has been running smoothly for nearly a year with almost no issues. Why is this important? Normally, every node would need to download and store all the data. PeerDAS changes that. Instead, Ethereum nodes can check small parts of the data and still confirm that the full data is available. That means Ethereum can handle more data without forcing every node to store everything. More data for rollups → more capacity → lower Layer 2 fees Vitalik's point is that PeerDAS may not get much attention, but it represents an important step toward making Ethereum more scalable while keeping the network decentralized. A quiet upgrade, but a big piece of Ethereum's scaling roadmap.

Europe's central banks have it right, in my view: a mandated bank deposit is the weakest part of a stablecoin reserve. The ESCB's response to the MiCA review, published this month, asks Brussels to remove that floor. Article 54 of MiCA requires "at least 30 % of the funds received" to sit with credit institutions, and the EBA's 2024 draft rules lift it to 60% for significant tokens. 1. We have already watched this fail. In March 2023 @circle said $3.3B of USDC reserves, "about 8% of the USDC total reserve," was held at Silicon Valley Bank. That cash was meant to be the safest slice of the pool, and in the ESCB's own account it is what set off a run on USDC. 2. The link runs both ways. The ESCB writes that a stablecoin run "could trigger a run on an exposed bank," and it is candid that its own fix moves some stress into sovereign bills instead. Bills can still be sold on a bad day. A deposit inside a failed bank waits on the resolution. 3. The replacement is already on paper. The EBA's draft liquidity rules want 40% of a significant token's reserve maturing within one working day, and the ESCB would keep those buckets while dropping the deposit share. The EBA sees it differently, as a redemption tool, and wrote that prompt redemption "is key to protect holders' rights." Overnight reverse repo can meet that clock too. 4. The size makes it cheap to fix now. EURC, Circle's $EURC, had about 405 million tokens circulating on CoinGecko on 24 September. Reserve design settled at this scale shapes whatever gets built on top. Consultation closes Wednesday, 30 September. Will be reading how the bank responses land on this one 🏦

JUST IN: Citi says 77% of financial institutions expect to use tokenized collateral, cash and bonds moved on a blockchain, in 2026. - An earlier Nasdaq survey had 52% - Idle collateral could cost a big bank $346M a year, because old systems can't always move it in time

Folks less familiar with Aave often ask me how I think about Aave’s potential markets. I like to measure them through addressable collateral. The bigger the universe of assets that can be used as collateral, the bigger the lending opportunity. We started with crypto, expanded into securities through Coinbase Tokenized Stocks and Horizon RWAs, and will eventually help accelerate the world’s transition toward abundance: solar, batteries, GPUs, robotics, and space infrastructure. I believe this transformation will continue through 2050. Aave’s goal is to accelerate it by a decade by funding the assets that power abundance. Stay ambitious.

Another @vangrid_io detail I actually like: Every bounty has to be funded before it even shows up on the board. USDC gets locked on Base first, then someone goes out and captures the location. Sounds small, but I think this fixes one pretty obvious DePIN problem. A lot of networks basically say, collect everything now, maybe someone needs it later. Here the demand already exists. Someone wants fresh data from a specific place AND already put money behind that request. → A blank spot on the map can basically become a price signal. If nobody needs the data, no reason to spam captures there. If someone does, suddenly there’s a reason to go update it. Way healthier incentive than farming random streets forever tbh

zcash:native doesn’t need to catch $BTC to become a real competitor for crypto’s store-of-value flows. “It’s sort of the Bitcoin play, but private.” “It’s hard to say that Zcash is a Bitcoin competitor when you have a $1.7 trillion asset shoulder to shoulder with a $26 billion asset.” “But… it is a competitor for the marginal flow of dollars in 2026 buying assets.”

I covered how IBM just connected Digital Asset Haven to Swift's ledger for tokenized deposits. The key insight? Banks can test blockchain, based deposits while keeping their existing payment systems and compliance workflows completely intact. That's how traditional finance actually adopts blockchain. WSX Breaking: Hedera has contributed its CLPR (Cross-Ledger Protocol) to Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust as a new open-source lab, targeting direct interoperability between independent blockchains. CLPR uses cryptographic state proofs to let ledgers verify each other directly, enabling assets, data and messages to move across networks without traditional bridges, wrapped tokens or intermediary validators. The contribution opens the protocol to broader developer experimentation and could provide new infrastructure for cross-border payments, cross-ledger settlement and collateral mobility.

MASSIVE: Solana’s Alpenglow moves to devnet 🚀 Testnet yesterday. Devnet today. The biggest solana:So11111111111111111111111111111111111111112 consensus upgrade is now running on devnet as the observation period gets underway ahead of the planned mainnet-beta migration.
BIG: Alpenglow starts rolling out on Solana testnet this week. ⚡ It targets ~150ms finality, down from roughly 12.8 seconds today, that means faster confirmations for payments, trading, bridges and apps. $SOL already feels fast. Alpenglow makes that speed final.

Ethena is partnering with @Binance as our first venue for the extension of the basis trade into equity perpetuals, one of the most exciting updates to the USDe collateral backing since launch. This expands the addressable market of underlying collateral from $2.5 trillion of crypto to $150 trillion+ of real-world assets. As part of the partnership, bStocks will serve as tokenized spot collateral, hedged with Binance USDT-denominated equity perpetuals - the same delta-neutral structure Ethena has securely executed across crypto assets since inception. Importantly, Binance provides lower ADL priority for eligible delta-neutral accounts including Ethena's, adding another layer of risk mitigation for USDe holders. Binance equity basis has averaged ~11%+ annualized over the past 6 months, while open interest has grown on average ~30% per month in the last 3 month period. We expect the market opportunity size for equity perpetuals to far exceed the $15b+ of crypto perpetuals captured by Ethena last cycle. Allocations begin today.

THIS ISN’T AI BUILT ON ETHEREUM. AI IS NOW HELPING BUILD ETHEREUM. @ethlabs_org says AI assisted work has produced a formally verified design that could make Ethereum finality 4–8x faster. Today, transactions take about 15 minutes to become fully final, known as finality. This design could cut that dramatically. It separates block production from finality, allowing Ethereum to improve both independently while formal verification helps machine check the work. The Ethereum Foundation is considering the design for a future major upgrade. Ethereum isn’t only getting faster. The process of upgrading Ethereum may be getting faster too. $ETH @fradamt

Bitcoin just broke above $86, 000 as forced short liquidations added fuel to the rally. But here's what matters: spot ETF inflows hit $999 million on Monday alone. That's institutional demand, not just leverage chaos. Can steady buying sustain this level? Link below.

The most advanced financial system globally in terms of blockchain by the way. $QNT powers it. Others will be too.
UK banks have completed the first live customer transactions using tokenised sterling deposits, and they ran on the #GBTD platform built by Quant. Delivered through the Great British Tokenised Deposit initiative, convened by @UKFtweets with @Barclays, @HSBC_UK, @LloydsBank, @monzo, @Nationwide, @NatWestGroup and @santanderuk, the transactions included: ➡️ Two remortgage completions, with funds locked and released automatically at completion ➡️ A marketplace purchase from a private seller, with payment released only once the goods were exchanged Payments that execute the moment agreed conditions are met give customers more control and can help reduce fraud. More pilots are expected in the coming months, including digital asset settlement. We're proud to have built the shared infrastructure behind this milestone, alongside @UKFtweets, the participating banks, @EYnews and Linklaters.
