Your team performance issue is a leadership issue.
Look in the mirror first.
Lead yourself first.

A goal says: “I want to be great.”
A commitment says: “I’ll do what it takes, every single day.”
One talks.
One shows up.

A major cheat code in life: Being a pleasure to deal with. Kind when others aren’t. Calm when things go sideways. Reliable under pressure. Intelligence alone is overrated. Be someone who lightens the load for folks around them. People value people who make their lives easier.

As a coach, I want to know you as a person. Not just an athlete. I want to be able to talk to you about life. Not just softball. A lot of recruiting nowadays is about spotting the talent first. Which is understandable, and something I do first as well. But after that, I recruit the person. If I can’t have a conversation with you and can’t trust you OR your parents to represent our program well, I cant continue recruiting you. Thats honesty.

A WNBA team named the Tennessee Summitt based in Nashville is the most poetic thing I have ever heard, we need this, and if this is taken from us I'll never forgive those in charge.

ATHLETES: As you continue your journey in athletics, you realize it is not about the awards, the wins, the losses, or the trophies.
It is about the relationships, the memories, the process, the grind, and the habits that you form.
It is about the person you become!

PJ Fleck said, “We will continue to have successful people first.”
People matter.
Are you a transactional coach or a transformational coach?
Transactional coaches obsess over results.
Transformational coaches invest in the person.

"Practicing hard is a choice. Watching extra film is a choice. Lifting weights, being coachable, and going to class are a choice. Your choices here are going to force me to either play you, or sit you on the bench. You’ll get exactly what you want." (Pat Summitt)

This scene from Cool Runnings hit me hard:
"A gold medal is a wonderful thing, but if you're not enough without it, you'll never be enough with it."
One of the most significant lies we tell ourselves:
"If I get [X], then I'll be happy."
It's easy to convince yourself that your happiness is contingent upon some external milestone:
• Money
• Promotion
• Fancy stuff
• Recognition
But these "if, then" traps are a dangerous mirage:
You climb to the top of that mountain, only to see the happiness you thought you'd find melt away and reappear in the distance.
If you convince yourself that your satisfaction is contingent upon the next achievement or milestone, you'll never find it.
Real satisfaction and happiness is an inside job:
Find it on the journey—or you won't find it at all.
Remember: If you're not enough without it, you'll never be enough with it...

Oregon State's Scott Rueck with QUITE an opening statement postgame:
"Fearless, courageous, together, everything that is right is this team. In our sport, where it seems like controversy is the flavor all the time for some reason and we all have to have something to whine about, this team just keeps it simple and does everything right. Y'all are probably bored with it. Shame on you, that's what I'd say. Everybody needs to get to know this team, everybody needs to watch this team, and everybody needs to be like this team. The world would be better if everyone focused on this instead of a lot of the other things. I couldn't be more proud of a group, more happy to be a part of them, and more grateful."
