No, that’s not a ghost haunting the deep — it’s a rhinochimaera!👻🦈
Also called a ghost shark or spookfish, it is believed that the long snout of this eerie deep-sea dweller may help increase sensory input to further gain information about its environment.

In 1923, an Omaha children's page said a bad goblin called Samhanach roams Scotland on Halloween, so children dress as bogies to scare it off and carry turnips hollowed into lanterns. Weird Tales got there in April 1926 with H. P. Lovecraft's "The Outsider." #weirdtober

#31DaysOfHorror 'Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust' (2001). Visually-stunning #anime #Western pastiche with #fantasy and #horror elements. The English dub has superb voice talent; I could listen to Pamela Adlon and John Rafter Lee all day long. 8 out of 10.

I found this treasure recently, published in 1930. Thompson was quite an interesting author. He wrote a number of similar books, always beginning with ‘The Mystery and Lore of…’ about magic, monsters, astrology and alchemy. I have most of them. Although meant for a general public, they are high in information value. Back then, publishers still did that: aim at a general public but didn’t dumb the contents of these books down. And occasionally you actually find a true, forgotten fortean gem inside, because these authors did their research.
He also wrote an early book on transgenderism as this bio states. His bibliography in this entry is incomplete though: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charle…

“The Hastur Cycle,” edited by Robert M. Price, published by Chaosium in 1993.
The first volume in Price’s lengthy "Cycle" series of Lovecraftian anthologies. It collects the stories that shaped the modern conception of the cosmic entity known as Hastur.

Grandfather kept me saying the Dho formula last night, and I think I saw the inner city at the 2 magnetic poles. I shall go to those poles when the earth is cleared off, if I can’t break through with the Dho-Hna formula when I commit it.

Yaksha (夜叉) move through Chinese folklore like shadows with purpose, born from Indian myth, then reshaped by Chinese imagination. Neither ghosts nor vampires, they belong to the dark rather than fear it.
In some traditions, they appear 1/2

If you are near a body of water near Obon in Japan, and you see mists on the water, don't wait for it to get closer. This is a Funayūrei, a Ghost Ship in the fog, full of resentful drowned sailors and prepared for you to join their crew. #SpookySunday
🖼: M. Meyer

ALT Matthew Meyer's depiction of the Funayurei, showing three skeletons. One stands on a boat in the fog, directing the other two, and the other two wander in the waters towards an unseen target. Blue flames burn beneath the ship and more follow the skeletons, free floating and from central little balls.
