Most US oil and gas wells are marginal, meaning they don’t produce a lot of oil and gas, but they can leak methane, which causes fires and explosions, contributes to smog, and heats the planet over 80x more powerfully than CO2 over a 20-year time period.

Yesterday, the US Supreme Court heard Big Oil's attempt to skirt accountability. In 2018, the City and County of Boulder, Colorado sued ExxonMobil and Suncor Energy for damages from climate change fueled by the industry’s pollution and recklessness.
Climate Reality staff and Leaders rallied outside the Supreme Court in DC and in downtown Boulder with the Center for Climate Integrity to say: Big Oil is not above the law, and communities deserve their day in court!

The Greek electricity grid currently sits at 91% Renewables, with a smattering of fossil for stability. It’s exporting to five counties.
When I moved into the Renewables industry the fossil lobbyists said beyond 20% made the grid unstable.

Now THIS is incredible. 26 decommissioned wind turbines from Scotland's first commercial wind farm were - wait for it - 99.9% recycled?!!
Less than 0.1% of their materials into landfill. And 100% of the recycling taking place here in the UK!
Blimey. What a game changer.

If you’ve ever looked at fossil fuel lobbyists showing up at climate talks and thought, “How does that make sense?” — this is your chance to say so.

Put your name behind the demand. We’ll take that message to delegates at this year’s COP 31 climate summit.

BREAKING: @CA_Richmond joins the growing movement of cities taking on the climate and public health crises caused by fossil fuels by banning methane gas in new buildings. #NoNewFossilFuels #SAFECities

A study in northern Sweden found that melting permafrost released one tenth as much methane as expected.
The findings suggest that emissions from thawing Arctic tundra could be much less than previously feared.

Gas - what’s to like?
Models have overestimated atmospheric levels of hydroxyl radicals, which break down methane. A new discovery shows that water vapor reduces sunlight's availability to make hydroxyl radicals, slowing methane’s atmospheric breakdown rate. climate.gov/news-features/fe…

Wildfires raging across Europe and Canada. Heat domes baking the US. Temperatures reaching 50°C in Tunisia. Extreme heat across the globe is being exacerbated by the continued burning of fossil fuels and authoritarian tactics that attack climate science, restrict protest and spread climate disinformation.
Heatwaves can kill directly, and they also fuel wildfires, worsen air pollution, dry out land and disrupt rainfall patterns. This deepens drought in some places and makes floods more dangerous elsewhere.
Governments must act now to protect people from the dire and worsening effects of the climate crisis. Big fossil fuel polluters must be held accountable and pay for their role in causing extreme heat and other climate harms.

The drought is exposing a weakness in nuclear power. Lack of water in the Danube has closed two reactors in Romania and one in Hungary. Similar problems have shut three in France. At least eight others in Europe are having to operate on reduced power.
