NEW: Mother’s Day 2025 — people of conscience marched through the streets of Georgetown in Washington D.C., highlighting the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

It’s funny looking back at this and remembering how many DSA folks attacked me over the so-called “infamous WOL protest,” simply because we endorsed it, I reported on it, and I defended the students.
Sometimes I wonder if being consistent and vocal about these principles just makes us an easier target, even when those same principles eventually become more widely accepted.

After he won the Pulitzer Prize, Palestinian writer Mosab Abu Toha was invited onto MSNBC where he was promptly interrogated about why he wasn't doing more to humanize the people slaughtering his family members in Gaza.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of addressing the graduates @UMich commencement. I spoke about the long history of student activism, which has moved the University toward justice.
Here is a video. It has caused a furore on social media & in UM admin.

Abdul El-Sayed: “AIPAC and Israel are not the same as Judaism and the Jewish people. I love Judaism and I love the Jewish people. The single most dangerous thing they’ve tried to tell us is somehow they can extend the definition of antisemitism to include a foreign government and its leaders. I call bullshit”

Thank you @RepMikeQuigley for speaking up on this vital issue in a place where it counts - as the bill providing billions of dollars to the IDF is being debated.
This week, I spoke up during a markup of the Appropriations Committee’s foreign affairs funding bill. The American people have been crystal clear—they want us to reexamine how we provide aid to foreign countries.
This discussion needs to include the aid we provide to Israel.

Everyone should stop what they're doing and read this deeply heartbreaking and incredibly powerful new essay from Mahmoud Khalil about his old life -- the one he had before the Trump administration began unjustly targeting him.

I wrote about J Street’s “cut off military aid to Israel” PR gambit which, upon closer inspection, is clearly a time-buying scam that 1) aligns w/ Netanyahu’s “phase out” plan & 2) provides a fake Israel-critical talking point for Dems increasingly under pressure from their base.
The move from paying for genocidal weapons to simply selling them is about buying time and misdirecting activist energy: by @adamjohnsonCHI

- @AlexCrawfordSky is doing something fascinating and it is drawing a lot of heat.
She is reporting on Arabs as if they were white people.

If I’m Palestinian and US bombs and weapons are killing me why do I care if the US didn’t technically pay for it. This is why the demand since spring 2024 was **an arms embargo** because it avoids this largely PR-driven pseudo solution
The Democratic Party will not move unless they are forced to move, by young people.
In 2018, we used fossil fuel money as a wedge to make 2020 the most recent progressive Presidential primary. It’s time to make a simple demand to every candidate: will you #BlockTheBombs & support an arms embargo on Israel?

those students were relentlessly targeted, prosecuted and suspended or expelled while their groups were either banned from campuses or sanctioned. the level of repression students have faced for being on the right side of history the past two years is staggering and shameful.
Biden's presidency was tormented by campus protests over Israel's war in Gaza and his reluctance to push back on it. They shadowed him at events
Those protests have been virtually nonexistent with Trump amid the war in Iran. @Lauren_V_Egan looks into why

⚠️This, together with the strikes against regime checkpoints & columns is a terrific modus operandi to aid unarmed protests successfully topple the regime.
No regime consolidation and ability to spawn new senior leaders will help if their oppressive apparatus is meaningless

BREAKING: Yesterday, while Basij checkpoints were being destroyed, reports confirm that 3,000 members of Yegan Vizhe, the regime's Special Forces unit used to brutally crush protests, received a direct warning message. The message was simple: you're next.

If you are baffled by why the jury refused to convict the Palestine Action defendants, it's because – unlike them – you didn't hear the actual evidence. You heard what the media wanted you to know.
Here, I explain what the jury learnt from the trial: jonathan-cook.net/blog/2026-…
