Is one countermovement fighting action on climate change or three?
Turns out there are 3: "the conservative movement, oil and gas industry groups, and electric utilities/mining/heavy industry"..movement is the "interface"

The @climatedevlab began this project with a team of students going to committee rooms at the statehouse and the state archives, here in Rhode Island. After studies in MA and CT, we went national. State-level politics are super-important, esp. with gridlock in DC.
Who is lobbying with whom, against what, and with what outcomes?
This article was five years in the making, built on a huge new dataset. Proud of the work by @ClimateDevLab scholars @GalenPHall and @trevordculhane, and really useful results.

Great review of our brand new @ClimateSSN assessment volume on obstruction of climate action in Europe
📢NEW: When it comes to climate inaction, our media and the IPCC have been trying to tell the story of Star Wars without Darth Vader. A new book shows how this approach is making fools of us all: climatelaundry.substack.com/…

We analyzed more than 100 breaking news stories about recent record-breaking heat and rainfall in the U.S.
Less than half mentioned climate change.
Only 11 percent mentioned fossil fuels, or other pollution sources.

My friend and colleague @TimmonsRoberts has been at the forefront of climate social science since I have known him, and his current work with the @ClimateSSN is arguably his most important contribution yet. This is exactly what we need: coordinated social scientists ...
Replying to @TimmonsRoberts
Why has global action on climate been so hard?
For 35 years, we have failed to understand and prepare for the opposition to it from entrenched interests.
A whole new approach is needed.

That’s fine in the short run, because even if you ran your car off a 100% natural gas grid, you’d still cut your carbon pollution roughly in half compared to a gasoline car. And in the long run the bulk of new electricity will come from lower carbon sources. Don’t worry about it
