2/3 Three years later, reconstruction and #resilience remain major challenges. This reality reminds us that climate action cannot be limited to responding to disasters: it must also enable #prevention, #adaptation, and #sustainable_reconstruction. #FundOurFuture #ClimateJustice
1/3 It’s #Global_Climate_Action_Week :this is time to invest in the future of our communities. In Bushushu, in #Kalehe territory, in #South_Kivu Province, the May 4, 2023 floods claimed 400+ lives, left nearly 5,000 people missing and damaged vital infrastructure. #FundOurFuture

Power Shift Africa is in Pretoria, represented by our Legal & Advocacy Advisor, @mboya_meshack, for the launch of “One Voice, One Strategy: A Continental Blueprint for African Strategic Minerals, Joint Industrial Policies, and Diplomacy”, organised by the SOUTHERN AFRICA RESOURCE WATCH SARW (@The_SARWatch). As global demand for critical minerals grows, Africa must ensure that its mineral wealth drives its own development rather than reproducing old patterns of extraction. That means moving beyond exporting raw materials towards value addition, local industrialisation, decent jobs, technology transfer and greater African ownership across mineral value chains. The Blueprint provides an important platform for building a common African strategy that can turn the continent’s mineral wealth into industrial and economic transformation. #OneVoiceOneStrategy #CriticalMinerals #AfricanIndustrialisation #EconomicSovereignty #JustTransition

Migration and modern day slavery are entrenched, systemic issue in the global economy. Strong legislation and enforcement against anybody found culpable in modern day slavery can serve as a deterrent. Youth unemployment and poverty alleviation programmes can reduce the rate at which the youth will plan to leave their country for greener pastures. It will also keep them away from crimes and other vices in the neo-slavery sphere. #AfricansRising #RisingTogether

The #REPower 2nd year anniversary action in Kyakaboga Resettlement Village, Hoima District. Community members, leaders, and defenders came together to advocate for clean, affordable, and community-owned renewable energy. From discussions on Uganda’s Energy Transition to grassroots solutions like community solar, the message is clear: Energy access is a matter of social and environmental justice. Big thanks to Oil Refinery Residents Association (ORRA), Nature Talk Africa, and Kazi_Njema News for organizing an impactful event! ✊🌍 #REPowerUganda

It's for this reason that Africa’s twin frameworks for infrastructure and energy development – the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) and the Continental Power Systems Master Plan (CMP) – aim to coordinate #investments, harmonise policy, and build a unified, low-carbon energy system for Africa.

The Kilimanjaro Declaration outlines the foundational philosophy of the Africans Rising movement. The declaration unifies all members of Africans Rising for Unity, Justice, Peace and Dignity, which was formally launched on African Liberation Day, 25 May, 2017. For the month of July we will be highlighting Climate Justice which is one of the core pillars of the Africa We Want. We're exploring the real impact of climate change across the continent, the systemic forces eroding climate justice for African people, and the governance gaps from political leadership failures to weak media accountability that maybe stalling meaningful climate policy action.

📢 Fossil fuel consumption creates not only an environmental crisis, but also a habitability crisis that affects where and how people live. This is particularly true for island nations threatened by sea level rise. 🌊 #LCAW2026 #FossilFuelTreaty

Civic participation actively seeks removing barriers that prevent meaningful engagement in political processes. This includes but isn’t limited to addressing hurdles such as complicated voter registration requirements, inconvenient election timing and accessibility issues that disproportionately affect marginalized communities.  Civic space is a cornerstone of a functioning democracy; an open and free civic space emerges through the combined efforts of a range of actors, inclusive government policy ,line ministries, public institutions, civil society and a well informed citizenry. #AfricansRising regularly hosts discussions and meetings seeking to allow open dialogue and discourse. Follow our social media channels to stay in the loop.
