Some people don't understand why Marco Rubio is so extremely pro-colonialist, because he is technically of Cuban descent.
But it's important to understand that Rubio does NOT see himself as Cuban. He constantly emphasizes that he is of Spanish (and Italian) descent.
In his latest speech in Greece, in which he again heaped praise on Western colonialism, Rubio proudly described himself as "a great-grandson of settlers who arrived in the new world from Spain".
He heroized European colonialists Hernán Cortés and Christopher Columbus.
Rubio does NOT see his family as Cuban; he sees his ancestors as European colonialists who temporarily lived in Cuba (as wealthy, light-skinned elites who supported the right-wing US puppet dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista), before re-settling in Florida.
This, in fact, is exactly how many conservative, pro-imperialist elites in Latin America see themselves, by the way.
There are still useful idiots out there who deny that the US is an empire.
Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio just gave another explicitly pro-colonialist speech, boasting that the US is a "continental empire".
He proudly identified the origins of the US empire in the colonization of North America. He totally erased the Indigenous peoples who lived there, referring to it as an "open and wild land" at the time of colonization.
Rubio waxed poetic on the "American frontier spirit", with no mention of the millions of Native Americans who died in the largest genocide in human history.
Rubio also praised the genocidal colonialists Christopher Columbus and Hernán Cortés.
Rubio traced the origins of the US empire back to Alexander the "Great", whom he heroized for "conquer[ing] the entire known world". The US empire has tried to do exactly the same, on top of many millions of corpses.

Don't forget, Melenchon isn't asking a lot here. The structurally married bond and FX markets capable of coercively enforcing fiscal discipline on sovereign nations have been a global operation only since the 1970s. Before then, governments had a high degree of economic autonomy. But fixed exchange rates were abandoned, capital controls were dismantled and the bond and FX markets became globally synced in electronic trading systems. In the event of a government threatening nationalisation and public investment, international investors - big capital funds demanding privatisation - were able to short the nation's currency and simultaneously dump its bonds.
The newly empowered global 'creditor class' began to act as an international regulatory body with the ability to punish offenders with higher interest rates and austerity demands. For half a century it's been a bit like floundering and begging for mercy under the cosh of Wonga International teamed up with the Rialto coin traders serviced by the Inquisition and the local baillif. This global disciplinary system is a very recent innovation - with some political and central bank coordination it could be crushed as quickly as it was constructed.

What is the big picture? The really big picture? I'll tell you. The 4,400 year old private interest-bearing moneylending system that's provided Western economies with their core dynamic is rapidly collapsing into an abyss of misallocated investments, over-leveraged and unpayable private debt, human redundancy, social inequality and headless violent reactions.
The system has already undergone two major civilizational collapses and numerous near-collapses. It relies on the relentless extraction of surplus from human activity and the environment, which is then monetised, leveraged and recycled as interest-bearing debt by greedy, uncultured, private elites and small-time emulators for their short-term gain. Accumulating assets and recirculating money as private debt is perversely regarded as the pinnacle of 'individual freedom'.
There is no inherent logic of permanence regarding the benefits temporarily enjoyed by the mass of workers and consumers during the brief social democratic era. Nor is there an inherent logic of environmental sustainability other than the clumsy, ex post facto and too easily manipulable price mechanism.
The replacement of this system, whilst avoiding the mistake of the demarketised, totally centralised command economy, depends on the democratic issue of currency as a public utility with investments targeted towards long-term social and environmental needs. That simple? The system was built on a disarmingly simple principle, and the elite are desperate that we should never understand it or regard it as replaceable.
While China tries to apply the principle of public purpose in a cagey game with the financialised, dollar-dependent global system, in the post-Keynesian neoliberal West only @TheGreenParty has made noises about this core issue. What stands in the way? Oligarchic power, relentless indoctrination, miseducation, ignorance, cynicism, demoralisation and absence of will. This system has crushed the West's soul and narrowed its intellect. Fyodor Dostoevsky was one of the few who regularly drilled down to the bedrock.
"You know, for instance, beforehand with positive certainty that this man, this most reputable and exemplary citizen, will on no consideration give you money; and indeed I ask you why should he? For he knows of course that I shan’t pay it back. From compassion? But Mr. Lebeziatnikov, who keeps up with modern ideas, explained the other day that compassion is forbidden nowadays by science itself, and that that’s what is done now in England, where there is 'political economy'."

Readers added context they thought people might want to know

For people wondering where this is coming from, this is because Abdul Hadi Awang - president of PAS (largest political party in Malaysia by federal seats) - threw a bombshell during a speech at his annual party congress.
He revealed that - back in 2014, around the time of Obama's visit to Malaysia - PAS party leaders were invited at the US embassy and "were informed about the possibility of toppling the government and taking over the administration" and that "the US was prepared to assist the effort"(scoop.my/news/297754/us-want…)
The US is officially denying it 👇
As Otto von Bismarck famously said: "Never believe anything in politics until it has been officially denied" 😉

Argentina's libertarian US puppet President Javier Milei is pushing through extreme anti-worker "labor reform" that will allow companies to force employees to work 12-hour days.
The "reform" also restricts the rights of workers to go on strike, and lets companies fire workers without severance pay.
Milei is a loyal servant of Wall Street and Argentina's billionaire capitalist oligarchs. This is the future they want for all workers everywhere -- 12-hour days (and even longer) -- if people don't fight back. Argentine labor unions are planning large protests.

'Orthodox Marxism' is used pejoritively. 'Orthodox' doesn't imply uncritical acceptance of classical Marxism. It means applying classical Marxism's philosophy of materialist dialectics and class approach to society to today's problems. 1/

> If, then, today we detect a stagnation in our movement as far as these theoretical matters are concerned, this is not because the Marxist theory upon which we are nourished is incapable of development or has become out-of-date. On the contrary, it is because we have not yet learned how to make an adequate use of the most important mental weapons which we had taken out of the Marxist arsenal on account of our urgent need for them in the early stages of our struggle. It is not true that, as far as practical struggle is concerned, Marx is out-of-date, that we had superseded Marx. On the contrary, Marx, in his scientific creation, has outstripped us as a party of practical fighters. It is not true that Marx no longer suffices for our needs. On the contrary, our needs are not yet adequate for the utilization of Marx’s ideas.
