Our full SORDINO paper is now available @NatureNeuro. I hope it will prove useful to the fMRI community. nature.com/articles/s41593-0… See our earlier digest: xitter.cf/ShihYYI/status/1901670… News & Views by @ShemeshL: nature.com/articles/s41593-0… Use SORDINO in your lab: camri.org/SORDINO
1/ Six years in the making! Our preprint on SORDINO fMRI is out. We're sharing the raw data and sequence to facilitate brain-wide mapping in awake, behaving rodents. If this could be useful to your colleagues and friends, please help spread the word! biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Amazing breakthrough in understanding functional connectivity!
Excited to share our new PNAS paper! 🎉 We examined the neural source of rs-fMRI FC using patterned optogenetic manipulation in mice 🧲🧠. A step toward answering a long-standing question. Fantastic work by @HnSk_Moon @hong_seok_jun @CNIR_IBS pnas.org/doi/epdf/10.1073/pn…

1/11 Excited to share our @Naturestudy led by @Leon_Oo1 @csabaorban @ZShaoshi doi.org/10.1038/s41586-025-0… It is well-known that AI performance scales with logarithm of sample size (Kaplan, McCandlish 2020), but in many domains, sample size can be # participants or # measurements...

Intra-cisternal Gd contrast MRI is a gold standard for imaging glymphatic function in vivo. But, a large Area-Under-the-Curve (AUC) is not necessary "high" glymphatic flow. It could be slow efflux, leading to more Gd retention. For detail: nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

Does cholinergic neurodegeneration impact glymphatic system? We lesion cholinergic neurons that project to the hippocampus. We find hippocampal, but not cortical, vascular-CSF concordance is impaired, suggesting a causal role. For detail: nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

Our 6-yr efforts is finally published on Nature Communications! We discover a neural pathway that regulates the glymphatic system. Its deficit in aging and dementia may result in the pathology. This suggests new targets for diagnosis and treatment. nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

11/ SORDINO for cross-brain coupling during social behavior 🐭🐭: We developed a dual-mouse hyperscanning platform, enabling simultaneous fMRI of two interacting mice. SORDINO reveals synchronized inter-brain activity in DMN & SN, uncovering neural dynamics of social interactions

This is what’s bugging me about AI denoise. Vendors always show you how pretty the normal human image is improved. But the real issue is whether it will also clean up pathology??
Are you using noise reduction software on your CT KUBs? Beware! We had a near miss recently Very modern software (this one is a deep-learning algorithm) can smooth out even 7mm calculi Check your scanner as AI isn’t always that smart

Insightful study for us working on small sample size:)
🚨 Brain Age vs Direct Models in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) 🚨 A thread 🧵 1/ Brain age is a powerful indicator of general brain health, trained on massive datasets. But does this translate to better prediction for specific outcomes, like AD? Preprint by @twktan : doi.org/10.1101/2024.11.16.6…

A neat design that addresses the awkward position of rodent body in MRI and results in greatly improved sensitivity of CBF imaging.
Very proud - @sara_pmonteiro (co-supervised by @patricia_mpfig) developed a new experimental setup for higher resolution (>x10 ) CBF mapping in rodents, with sequences by our collaborators Emmanuel Barbier and Lydiane Hirschler shorturl.at/YIaC3 Setup designs are provided!

More rigorous testing like this is needed to design effective nuisance removal methods. Yet, the simulated movement didn’t include the effects of magnetic field change induced by real motion.…
Shin et al. assess residual motion artifacts in fMRI data using a simulated motion acquisition sequence with an ex vivo phantom to identify effective nuisance regressors: doi.org/10.52294/001c.123369 @afni_pt @mallarchkrvrty1 @fMRI_today @OHBM

Just out from the press, my article for the 40 year anniversary of Diffusion MRI showing how the first years (1984-94) shaped the whole field to investigate the brain and its connectome, normal or diseased, and the body, notably for oncology. link.springer.com/article/10…
