Dartmoor Legends: ā€œThe Curse of Fernworthy Farmā€ The Fernworthy Gnome Legend is one of Dartmoor’s darkest pieces of folklore. The Earth Gnomes of Fernworthy, unlike the local mischievous pixies, are generally regarded as ancient, highly dangerous, and fiercely vengeful guardians of the surrounding subterranean land. Centuries ago, a young moorland farmer took over the historic, rundown Fernworthy Farm (a remote settlement with Saxon origins). Ambitious and determined to build a grand house to secure his family's status, he began aggressively quarrying the nearby hillsides for pink granite slabs. However, his quarrying directly breached the deep rocky underground caverns where Dartmoor's earth gnomes made their home. Deeply angered by the destruction of their habitat and the theft of their stone, the gnomes plotted a cruel plan for vengeance. Shortly after the grand farmhouse was completed, the farmer's wife gave birth to their firstborn son. One evening, while the child lay sleeping in his cradle, a mysterious, grey-cloaked gnome slipped into the nursery. As payment for the stolen granite, the gnome took the baby. Despite desperate searches across the wild moors, the child was never seen again. The legend took an unexpected turn in the late 1930s when to secure a fresh water supply for Torbay, the Torquay Corporation cleared the South Teign River valley, creating what is now the Fernworthy Reservoir. Fernworthy Farm was completely demolished between 1936 and 1942 to make way for the project. To construct the massive, 76-acre reservoir dam, engineers reopened local quarries to harvest matching granite slabs for the concrete facing. Local workers immediately warned that disturbing the stone would once again anger the sleeping earth gnomes and their warnings seemed to validated in 1938. Two years into construction, a sudden and violent storm hit the valley. The flash floodwaters completely inundated the site, washing a massive industrial crane into the river and burying the works under millions of gallons of silt. Clearing the damage caused immense project delays. While engineers blamed the unpredictable Dartmoor climate, local superstition firmly held that the gnomes had sabotaged the machinery as a modern act of revenge against the damming of their valley. What are your thoughts on gnomes? Do you have any related stories from where you live or maybe even a personal experience? DM or drop your thoughts in the comments below šŸ‘‡

Very very cool.
These are my great-grandfather Dr. Sam Aykroyd’s transcripts from the Seances he hosted in the Old Farmhouse. It was the spirit of his work passed down through the generations that inspired my interests. He’s the original Ghostbuster.

Never doubted. When you’ve seen’m in person, alive & breathing, wiggling their fingers as they walk, misjudging one of their steps, stepping over a 4ft. fence without even touching it, clearing a single lane gravel road at an almost 45% angle in only 2 1/2 steps, violently shaking a tree less than 30ft away in the full moonlight etc., etc. - I could go on & on. It’s hard to be dissuaded by some film producer claiming he’s not only solved the best video evidence we have, but that what every legitimate witness has described as being fake or misidentified also. The people telling the truth about their encounters, especially the up-close & personal accounts that leave no room for error can’t be dismissed by ANYONE who hasn’t seen them!

Personal Case File: ā€œThe Haunted Bathtubā€ In 1992, following the death of my great grandfather, my family moved to another part of the country to join my grandparents who had had already established themselves near the sea. This was to be the start of more than a new life but my paranormal journey. The upper floor of the property was positioned above the local convenience store whilst the lower floor extended out the back to accommodate the living room and kitchen. My mother and two brothers occupied two bedrooms at the front overlooking the street. I chose the large bedroom at the rear of the property which could only be accessed by a dark corridor with no lighting which also led to the bathroom. For a few months we lived in the house without any problems and established ourselves well with the local community. Soon though we would begin to experience the signs of a typical haunting. The build up was slow as it usually is: cold spots, footsteps, knocks and the unease of being watched. After several months, the build up became seriously overt in nature and escalated to poltergeist activity. Lights would begin to switch on and off on their own, doors would slam shut in front of you and objects would be thrown across the room. Our two cats and dog would become very distressed in certain areas of the property and would refuse to go upstairs. One morning my mother came to wake me for school and praised me for tidying my room to the extent that all my clothes were neatly folded and my slippers were placed one inside the other. I hadn’t tidied the room and even had I have done so, I wouldn’t have been so immaculately precise with my slippers or the folding of my clothes. At the time I had two pet mice which I kept in a tank in my bedroom. As mice are nocturnal my mother insisted that they be removed from my bedroom at night so we agreed that we would place the tank in the bathtub at night and close the doors so that the cats couldn’t get to them. One night my mother awoke to the sound of running water. When investigating the source she entered the bathroom to find that the bathtub plug had been placed in the plug hole and the taps were on full with the bath being a quarter full (the mice were quite safe). This happened again on a few occasions. One day when visiting the convenience store my mother mentioned these strange events to the manger who went white. He then began to explain that a previous tenant in the property had committed suicide in the bathtub. His story was later confirmed by others in the local area. We remained in the house for a few more months but after our beloved cat Susie suddenly disappeared from the garden wall one day (she never left the garden) and was never seen again, and our younger cat Whiskey whom was her adopted child literally died of a broken heart we decided we should move. Then began my next experience with a far worse poltergeist. To be continued…

After Watching Capturing Bigfoot I have been working through the details provided by Evans’ crew and early viewers — Palacios, Munns, Meldrum, and others — for months. When I finally saw the footage itself, it was consistent with what those details had already shown. The only thing missing until now was the actual film. Two criteria could have changed my view: 1. Clear evidence that the mystery footage was shot before the Patterson-Gimlin Film — not a manufacture date on the stock, and not an expert saying ā€œprobablyā€ because the image looked bright. 2. A technical showing that the figure in the mystery footage is a realistic first-pass costume capable of producing what we see in the Patterson-Gimlin Film. That would require explaining the non-conical head, the padded shoulders, the limited arm swing, the absence of skin, the unnaturally white sole, etc. Neither criterion was met. The visual record of Patty remains unmatched by the new clip. Props to Evans for building a compelling narrative around the people, but when the conviction rests on the footage itself, the footage has to be accounted for. It has not been. Therefore I stand by what the evidence shows. Patty is real. šŸ‘£šŸŖ¶

I have always believed 100% this was an authentic capture of a somehow still surviving hominid. ā€œBig Footā€ as we all call it. Years ago a doc showed how a muscle spasm was evident when it put it’s weight down. Impossible to show through a suit.

**BE WARNED: EARLY CHRISTMAS JOKE** I was at a hotel front desk when the manager kicked out some board game enthusiasts for gloating about how their favourite player had just thrashed his rival. The receptionist told me that her boss hates chess nuts boasting in an open foyer.

bcscc.ca/sasquatch Several months ago I was enjoying a podcast from @hammersonpeters called the Secret Sasquatch Files. In one of the episodes he stated that some of the information in one of the videos came from the below mentioned British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club and that undoubtedly one of his listeners raised a flag to them and they ordered him to take it down. I consider this unfortunate for two reasons. Who doesn’t want to hear Peters give life to their words that sit dormant on the internet for so long? And the previous question answers this next statement. I’ve never heard of the BCSCC until the HP video and from what I can tell the organization is all but defunct. While there is some great information on their site and some of it I had not heard before, I consider it a disservice to itself to not let a presentation of their work be more available and would potentially bring in new members. Nonetheless give this page a look. Some really good stuff on several different cryptids.

Does anyone else enjoy attending auctions, especially when haunted items go up for sale? I was hooked after going once, going twice, and going for a third time.

This one piece of morphology is what sells me on Patty. The fact hat you can view the oscillation of a decidedly low-fat, and arguably hypertrophic musculature. No Halloween costume from six decades ago could allow for that, combined with the likelihood of finding such a human to fill the role, not impossible, but unlikely. A nook of my library. Top shelves are the 19th century ā€˜Journals’ and ā€˜Proceedings’ of the Society of Psychical Research. Lower shelf to the right the 19th century German paranormal and spiritist magazine ā€˜Sphinx’. Next to it Dutch spiritist magazine ā€˜Op de Grenzen van Twee Werelden’ (On the Borders of Two Worlds), that started in 1877 and went on to 1905. All in all hundreds of years of paranormal research, investigations and discourse. We may not be nearer to the answers, but it isn’t because of lack of trying.

Today was the day. I turned in my resignation. It went really smoothly. I promoted my assistant manager Kevin to General Manager and have already informed the owners. They wished me well. This may create a waves 🌊. I’ve worked there since June 2009. In 17 years I’ve met a ton of cool people. It was a big chunk of my life 50 to 60 hours or more sometimes a week. It’s to the point where I remember more about my job than I do my life outside of work. I’ve missed years of baseball games, football games, soccer games, festivals and having anything resembling a life. I opened my eyes and my parents are old now. I know they miss me. I have two brothers that I’ve seen about 5 times in 20 years. It’s really sinking in hard today. I got a job I never thought i would get and I’m going to do it as well as the last one. I carried that place like a mountain on my back. If anyone ever needed anything, i exploded into action and fixed it before anyone could blink. I became a master at that place. I deeply worry for the people that rely on me surviving in there. There’s one that I’ve known since he was a child and pushed him into getting a job, his license and a car. I have no doubt he will be affected. I took it to number 1 in sales more than once and didn’t expect anything and wasn’t awarded anything. I persevered through the chaos to the point it felt like i didn’t even have to try and my crew responded in my character. I set the bar high and they always reached it. I couldn’t have done it so well without them. I start my new job on November 2nd. I can wear a suit. I can sit down. I can be home before the sun goes down. I can eat dinner in the sun. I can finally keep my yard cut. I can fix my life. I need to work hard on that. I almost worked myself to death in June and am paying for it hard. It’s difficult not to be bitter about it. I had some really awesome people on X to keep me company while I was going through that. You know who you are. I’m forever indebted for your kindness. I will also now be able to write and research more. I’ve found I’ve got a knack for it. I’ve found some great people on here and have had some amazing conversations. I’ve talked to so many awesome people here and I wished I had more time to talk to them all. I never had a social media page until I was in my forties and am glad I waited. I’m so glad to know you all. And I’m so happy to be able to call some of you friends. I hope to bring more amazing things your way soon. I hope to be able to meet some of you. This may sound strange but I mark the beginning of my journey to now at @canammissing / David Paulides’ YouTube page. I found the Bigfoot 101 class just looking for something new on the subject. In one of his videos he said there are some really good people on X and I’m inclined to agree. Watching his videos daily had a tremendous effect on my attitude day to day. He ended every video with a suggestion to do something nice for someone every day and it doesn’t cost a thing. In doing this I found what a positive effect this has on people. I really try to channel that kindness through here. Dave was huge inspiration in getting me through my workdays. I also read a ton now because of him. Sorry for this way too long of a post but I had to get some of this off my chest. Wish me luck everyone! More to come. 🫈 ā€œAs the island of my knowledge grows, so does the shoreline of my ignorance.ā€ attr John Archibald Wheeler
